sorry for my ignorance roker but is it the first one which includes everything? frikandelletje oorlog? (including sauce,onions etc..) or the second one? would i have to ask for the sauce etc.. to come on it or if i asked for that would they know exactly what im after?
If you ask for 'een frikandel (letje*) oorlog' you will get a frikandel with mayo, sate sauce, and chopped onions. Same goes for the chips...ask for a 'patat (je*) oorlog' and you'll get chips with the same sauce combo. Try a berenklauw (Bears claw), with oorlog sauce...mmmmm
* optional but gives it a nice friendly informal tone. The Dutch love to add 'tje' or 'etje', or just 'je' to the end of words, eg 'bladzuiger', or 'bladzuigertje'...just gives it that bit more of a friendly tone imo...

to start with, a gh is the throaty sound of a Dutch 'G', not to be confused with the much harsher 'ch' sound. The G is much softer especially in Belgium and Southern Holland, with the exception of Rotterdam, but they're all pickled anyway.

oorlog= or-logh (Like Loch Lomond pronounced correctly)
frikandel= frik-an-dell
frikandelletje=frik-an-dell-a-tya (As in 'haven'tya')

A berenklauw is basically a gehaktballetje (Large meat ball), sliced like you would a tomato but thicker, it has onion in between the slices and is held together by a wooden skewer. Usually you'd ask for sate sauce and they lash it over it...great snack/meal depending on how big your stomach is...available at most 'snackbars'.
Practice saying it 5 times and you'll get it...

cheers mate, and all of this will be available at most snack bars? i remember the guys in gemert going on about it so when we got there we had one and i thought it was rather nice so would just like to try it again!
