Widespread Panic

Post by Iko »

Any Panic fans here ?
They have not been to Europe in a long while, but i know they still have some love from overseas.
They to me come across as a cross between The Allman Brothers Band and the Grateful Dead.
They tour nonstop and last year set a record for the the most sellouts of Red Rocks by any band in history.

good jam band...a bit boring in concert with the guitar player who sits down (is he still with them - i haven't been to a show in at least 5 years), not that i need a show or anything (i go for the music - i'm the 1 in 10,000 that come for the show!) but how about a little energy, that guy brought me down at shows, i always felt like he wasn't into it so why should i be. they also need to ax that keyboardist vocals...he's worse than vince...otherwise very good jam band...

check out the entire first disc of "Light Fuse, Get Away" for some good live jammin'...actually D2 isn't too shabby either, especially the last five songs or so...

Michael Houser is the sitting guitarist.
He sadly died in 2002 of pacreatic cancer.
He sat because he had significant circulation problems.
The most recent member is guitarist Jimmy Herring who you may know from The Dead, The Allmans and or Phil and Friends.
Love Light The Fuse, hat 1996 sound is what got me hooked on these guys.

Very MUCH like Government Mule, in fact they co-bill shows all the time as they share the same fans.
They are doing some shows together this tour even.
As to where to start "Light The Fuse And Get Away" is great live stuff and " Till The Medecine Takes" is great studio album.
Though every show is released as a SBD and each one has something worth hearing.

Holy sh** is it this friday? dang time creeps up on you. Yes if there are still tix left I will be there. Have you seen music at the sheldon? Its an awesome smaller venue. Not a bad seat in the house. Seen Dr. John with the Neville Brothers at the Sheldon for a mardi gras concert.

The Mule blows Panic away ....... I seen them both many times (I wouldn't go see panic anymore but I have to due to work) ........ I liked Panic more when they had "The potted plant" on guitar ....... To me their writing has gotten duller over the years. Jb's voice wears me out by the end of a show. I am a HUGE Gov't Mule fan. I can get sick of Mule, but thats ok as i do not see them that often.
Mule is done after New Years for atleast 18 months ive been told.
Warren is putting a new band on the road, that coupled with the Allmans doing a real tour next year has lead him to atleast temporarily closing down the Mule army.
Very eager to hear his new band to see if it breaks back into that psychadelic groove a little deeper instead of the classic garage rock hes perfected with Mule.

What do you do for work Toolshed ?
As for WSP i keep hearing that the two guys from NMSA are coming on board in the spring to replace Jimmy Herring and one of the drummers.

I work production at a local concert hall. WSP is there in a few weeks. I dont even know when but I will be working. Usually they come over Thanksgiving and I thought I wouldn't be working the show (Cup time) but they moved the dates up this year.
