Deli food

Post by mlester187 »

Hi guys, I'm going to Amsterdam again at the end of this month and wanted a bit of help. Does anybody know of any good delis (maybe like a new york deli?) in Amsterdam, preferably in/near the city centre?
If not what can people recommend for lunchtime snacks?

Thanks in advance

When I 'lost' my passport in Rotterdam, I had to go to the British Consulate in Amsterdam for an emergency one...I stopped on the way for a falafel (pronounced: ful-aar-ful), first time...quite good with all the extra's qua salad and shit that you get with it...cheap too

have to admit i think roker and i are joking. the shoarma and falafel places are kebab shops where apply your own salad.

my tip about albert cujp market is true though.

I wasn't joking, varkensvlees (pigs meat) is like rocking horse shit to find, but it's by far the nicest, then lamb, then chicken...and no, good shoarma places don't do kebabs, well not the shitty donner anyways. It's the turkish kebab shops selling dodgy shoarma that you've got to watch for...

I used to go to an exquisite little place in Hilversum called Holyland...it has a sister shop in Haarlem with the same name...highly recommended, their food is something else and not just shoarma...it is a proper grillroom...

I've seen nothing like that in the 'dam. It ain't a place you can get a baseball of corned beef.

Pauli directed me towards a famous cheese shop that is a Deli.
Had an amazing sandwhich there.
I think it was sort of close to Bluebird ?

Haartenkaas off the Prisengracht near the Pulitzer. Fresh sliced meats, amazing sandwiches. Not a deli, but a great place for wonderful sandwich. Small sitting garden in center, or grab a bench or edge of canal...

The place just off Prinsengracht looks good, found a few review online. Looking forward to visiting :)
