Found my home...

Post by Janne »

So I’m sitting here in my apartment in Trondheim, with a couple of notebooks, a lot of pictures and memories I almost have a hard time believing. I’ve been spending time with friends these days, talking about the trip. I guess I’m ready to write down what I remember from my days in Dam. It’s gonna take time though, a lot of time... And I know words, however big a fan I am of them, will never be enough. I’ll give a brief note here, the rest will take days, I’m sure.

Hotel Alexander is spotless. Nice staff and I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Excellent location by the Vondelpark, Leidseplein felt like my home part of the town. Didn’t play much guitar though (but bought a baritone at Dirk Witte, great place at Vijzelgracht).

As for weed, I would recomend the Blue Cheese at Bluebird. Love that place, also tried the fresh mint tea... lovely!). Northern Light from Rokerij, White Widow from The Tops. And Orange Bud, don’t remember the name of the place I bought it. Natural High from Rookies was a nice and safe start for a light smoker like me. Later on I found I prefer strong and pure joints, and rather smoke a little less (but often ;)).

But the absolutely best weed I tried, was the Bubble gum from at kinda classy place just by Nieuwmarkt (just at the edge of RLD). Feel like a light brush of slik against my legs, I swear... 1g for 12 euros. Actually mixed it with the Blue Cheese, what I had left on the last day, think it worked pretty good :D Had the last of it just before walking throught the security check, nice flight home.

I really miss her. Amsterdam left a solid impression on me last year, but this time it absolutely blew me away. If you take your time, smile and behave, I found you simply couldn’t go wrong. A coffee shop is almost like wisiting a friends house, really like that the staff look like they’re enjoying themselves just as much as I am! I like to talk to the budtender, ask him/her about recomendations. If one has some clue about the theory, this is a both educational and fun!

I have spent a lot of time thinking about our laws. 'Don't do this, don't do that..." At Tweede Kamer (yeah, Kali Mist is like a glass of champagne, Oceans 12 is like two ;)) I read 'Smoking tobacco is bad for your health, you should try to aviod it'. See what I'm getting at? Without much paying attention to it, I discovered that in Amsterdam (where I knew I could get my hands on any kind of hard drugs if I wanted), I didn’t even feel like smoking tobbaco... That came as a fun surprise, not to mention that food, drinks and weed started to taste lovely! Ah... remembering the taste of that bubble gum again... And Dolphins is a must, the White Dolphin is so fun to smoke together with the three dolhpins at the wall. Almost felt like swimming with them (yeah, I've got a vivid imagination, but the weed was excellent).

OK. I’ve got to get to it. Two books, just gotta get the notes digitalized. I need a secretary ;)

I’m making plans for the end of July, a four-nighter with a friend. Hope to see you then! In the meantime, I recomend www.radiofreeamsterdam.com. The sond of Johns soothing voice takes me back to a stoney summer Sunday evening, with a view over Nieumarkt...

Peaceand love,
Janne.

By the way, this is my list (more or less :))

Rookies: Natural High, 2,4g for 15 euro. Nice way to start the day, not too strong, but a kind mellow sativa. Excellent to start the day on a natrual high!

Blowery: Silver Haze 3g, for 17 euro. Great for shopping. I'm not much of a shopper, this made it fun! My favourite buy was an evening dress in pure silk, which was a perfect 'cover' when I went to the casino (hehe, had a lot of fun pretending I was filthy rich, I knew none of these people so why not, fun conversations and got the giggles when I smoked a joint in the toilet  ).

Homegrown Fentasies: Durban Poison, 1g for 5 euro. Also a fine sativa, organic.

Bulldog: Blueberry, 2g for 12 euro. I asked the lady budtender for some indica for the evening at the hotel. She recomended. 'You'll fall on the bed and shit yourself'. That wasn't really what I was looking for, but I gave it a try anyway. The nice lady gave me two shugar bags to go. No dirty incidents on the hotel bed, and no need for the shugar. I had a blast :D

Tweede Kamer: Kali Mist, 1g for 5 euro. Oceans 12, 1g for 5 euro. Like the lady budtender said 'The Kali is like a glass of champagne, the O12 is like two'. Ahe was right ;)

Bulldog: 1,8g Misty for 12 euro. Not my favourite, didn't quite get it.

Can't remember the name of the shop: 2g Orange bud for ? euro. Nice sativa, like an orange.

The Tops: 1,9g White Widow for 12 euro. Shiva: 1,9g for 12 euro. Loved the minty flavour of the Widow. Not too fond of the taste of the Shiva. Nice place to smoke, great view.

Rookies: 2g NL5x for ? euro. A must. Really nice for the evening.

Bulldog: 1,8g White Widow for 12 euro. Not as good as the widow at The Tops, but alright.

Rookies: 2,4g Natural High for 15euro.

The Dolphins: White Dolphin, 1g for 10 euro. A real treat, house special and highly recomended! Loved the place.

Rokerij: 2g Sweetstick Haze, 1g for 10 euro. 1g NL5X-Haze, 1g for 11 euro. Sweetstick was a funny thing to grind, tasted good also.

Bluebird: 1,4g Blue Cheese for 12,5 euro. 1,2g Super Silver Haze for 12,5 euro. The Bluebird is one of my favourites. Haze was also good, BB is just awesome! And don't forget the mint tea at 1,5 euro.

Bluebird: 1,4g Blue Cheese for 12,5 euro. 1,? gram AK47 for 12,5 euro. AK47 is a big gun, right? Sorry, I'm a passifist... but I felt like I was fireing some rounds, so to speak

Rookies: 1,2g pre-rolled NL for 5,5 euro.

Bluebird: 2 bags of 1,4g Blue Cheese for 12,5 euro a bag.

Rookies: 1,2g pre-rolled NL for 5,5euro.

By Nieumarkt: 1g Bubble gum for 10 euro. Saved the best for last. It really tasted like bubble gum, I swear :D Will go back in a couple of weeks, will be sure to get the name... or perhaps some of you know it?

So... That makes a total of (approx) 40,6 g / 8 days = 5,075. Almost a little impressed with myself, seeing as I had a not-so-fun-to-mention episode last year, where a whitey came to wisit... inside a mini market of all places, my friend got a chair and I sat down, feeling like a complete idiot tourist who couldn't handle the gouvernment not watching what she does at all times... Ah, the embarassment. I threw up, very little but not very lady like, in a plastic bag. Felt better. Apologized two hundred times to the owner, he was nice enough. So yeah, I'm feeling pretty proud of the fact that I reached the '5g a day'. And no embarassing moments. Don't care to calculate the euros though, it was worth it, every single one :)

Very nice write up Janne. I see the cheese is back. Have never tried any, but hopefully some is still around this December. You sure put a dent in their stock while you were there. NICE!!! AzLaker 8)

Great report Janne, nice to see the emotions coming through. Amsterdam got better for me after the first trip as well. It's all about confidence and you obviously have bucket loads of that.

Enjoy in July if you go.

Awesome report Janne - and some smoking list to go with it too! If the Blue Cheese is as good as last year then you found one of my favourite weeds I ever smoked in Amsterdam.

I could only imagine that shop off the RLD you were thinking of was either Hill Street or Rock It (pic below) from looking at the map on this site, but i'm only guessing.

I'm around for a few days end of July also; would be great to share a smoke and some stories if our dates crossed. Thanks for writing :)

A smoke and some stories sounds great, Valo :) I'll do the final bookings tomorrow night, but it actually looks like 27-31.

It wasn't Hill Street though, it was on a rather narrow street. It think I walked down either Zeedijk or the street crossing Achterburgwal... I suggest we meet at Rock-it or something, and perhaps take a walk and look for some bubble gum? We'll talk later :)

Take care, ya all!
Janne.
