Obama the biggest let down of all time ?

We Canadians were jealous when the USA elected Obama as president.
It really looked liked you had embraced the future and cut ties with the past.
It seemed like after 8 years of Bush The Warmonger that the world held the USA in such low regard, rightly so for stirring the hornets nest of the middle east and bringing the world to the brink of WW3.
With Obama , it seemed like those days were over, and the entire world seemed to celebrate in optimism of the future.
Now two years later, all i can do is shake my head at the squandered blown potential, he has done next to nothing, and will now almost certainly become a one term president.
But what is worse, and now i get to the global significance, is Obama's utter failure is giving power to the fringe, which is opening the door to the inconceivable; Pailin or some other nutbar being elected President of the most powerful milatary on the planet.
Pailin with her finger on the button keeps me awake at night in a cold sweat, and that unfortunately effects us all.

The president's power is based upon cooperation from the other branches of government as well as corporate backing. Without those, he/she is powerless. The president is not almightY FYI.

Thats kinda my view, albeit, an outsiders view.
The Republicans have made it very difficult for Obama to get anything passed.

Impotent he may be, but inspirational leader, I think he is. In history we have few and far between... Change is hard to effect in any walk of life these days. I truly hope your prediction does not come true, and your tea party has any more influence than it already has.

Its the dreams he gives to the young that makes me feel good. Please forgive me for saying this, but I never thought I would never see the day we had a mixed race/black president of the USA. All of those children growing up in middle America, finally have something to live up to (and lets hope they believe they can do better!).

All this is said as an ex-pat Brit who has never even visited America (yet).

I agree with this. My major issues with him are 1) his handling of our bank bailout (see my point on corporate backing) and 2) letting Xe (Blackwater) still work as a military contractor.

This.

Just a point as well, i think Obamas problem is now how to gain any influence back, does he go right or actually go to the promises he made in the election? I say go with his original promises, if you're going to loose; loose fighting for what you think is right.

Whatever your opinion of him, 2 years is nothing compared to 8 years of Bush.

It takes time for the effect on the country to come through. Same thing happened in England when Tories were in for even longer and then Labour left their stain on the country. It will take a while to feel the effects of the UK's new government too.

As an outsider it is not that i think he is BAD, atleast not Bush family bad, it is just he has proven he is as inept, incompetant and untrstworthy as any other politician.
He had so much potential his inability to do anything is just glaring in the face of Bush who pushed his agenda without a care in the world and steamrolled all who got in his way.
I completely disagreed with Bush's policy, but atleast he can be given credit for doing SOMETHING.
Obama will be remembered for his skin colour not for a single achievement  .

Here we are in midterm is nothing has really changed,Bush era policies & the global meltdown aside you dont really hear or see anything from o`bama,Like boner says he does draw some parallels with tony blair,Ie they got in on the promise of change & a new era but quickly faded.
