Is there a future for Dutch coffeeshops...?

Legal news, protests, etc.

You've all written the Prime Minister I assume? Or perhaps it's easier to just let it happen and complain about it.

There is still time to do something. Write the PM with a polite letter explaining why you come to the Netherlands, and why you won't come to the Netherlands. You have the ability to make a positive effect. The posters here have more passion about Amsterdam then most other places. Even a few letters will help. Get busy.

Any idea, link, on how to go about that? I would be glad to and think that we all should.

I think that's a great idea M.H.....since you've alrealy written one to the PM, could you post your template here along with the PM address. Then all ACD'ers could copy that letter, sign it, and mail it to the PM.
Great idea MileHigh. :)

Let the Dutch Prime Minister know you support Coffee Shop Culture in the Netherlands!
Write to:
Minister President
Mark Rutte
Ministerie van Algemene Zaken
Postbus 20001
2500 EA Den Haag
The Netherlands
or Tweet him at @MinPres
Mission:
Greetings To The Netherlands is a social action campaign to preserve the Coffee Shop and Cannabis Culture in the Netherlands.
Description:
Here is an example of what to write in your own words:
I just completed a very pleasant stay in your country. I particularly enjoyed the tolerant policy on Cannabis. Thanks to this policy and the Coffee Shops, Cannabis consumption can take place in a safe and friendly social environment without causing harm or public nuisance to anybody. It has come to my attention that you are considering changing this tolerant policy and not allowing tourists entry to the Coffee Shops. I encourage your Government not to give in to the pressure to end this unique and world famous policy. That would be a huge mistake.

It looks like March sometime before the new pass system will be implemented and probably a couple more months before enforcement begins. You may know my girl and I put on Cannabis Freedom day in Amsterdam over the last few years. Very few locals showed up. Now the coffeeshop owners are slowly coming together for some sort of protest. I believe it is way to little way to late. Nice one.

Inconsistent info

Post by calisway »

I just returned to the US yesterday from a 2 week trip to Amsterdam where I visited many coffeeshops. Before I left for my trip, I heard from many sources that tourists have been banned from the coffeeshops and that I would not be allowed in. This could not have been further from the truth. Nobody asked me for ID or proof of nationality and every budtender I spoke to seemed to think that such a ban was impossible. On my last day I went to the Cannabis College and spoke to a guy named Dave about this. He told me that it had passed while I was on my trip and out of the loop in terms of not sitting online scanning news (a healthy change).

I am now at home 2 days later and can still not find any reliable info that can tell me for a fact that the ban was voted for and that it will be in effect on some certain date. I don't know about the netherlands, but when an enormous law change happens in the US the media plasters it everywhere. Maybe someone can post a link for me to see that shows that this ban has been passed, when it will go into effect and how it will be enforced. Then I will believe it. Otherwise, right now it seems like the non-Dutch media loves to spread this half-truth around because it makes for an excellent story. It makes people happy to say "see I told you that decriminalized cannabis doesn't work and is fundamentally wrong." Anyone who visits coffeeshops on a regular basis knows just how peaceful they tend to be (even when people are vying for a seat).
