I'm sorry to change the subject, but why does everyone have Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas avatars? I thought that was a terrible movie.

Oh you poor child.

I think you need to go away and do some reading!

I'll be honest, I've not even seen the movie.

PS..... I've counted 3.... hardly everyone now is it?

^^^Yeah what he said. I was watching a couple of reruns of the Nash Bridges t.v. show and saw that Hunter had written the screenplays. Needless to say they were very good story lines, but just a little :?: twisted. Am big fan.

To each his own I guess, I might give the book a shot, but the film just completely failed to capture my interest.

I remember watching the film a while back and I found it compelling viewing. Would very much like to see it again sometime.

Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro wasn't it?

Played out (to me) like a Terry Gilliam film. Really strange, and sometimes you wonder exactly what is going on but you still watch it.

Definitely not run-of-the-mill.

Hunter wasn't exactly " run of the mill" himself. Check out some of his books, or read about his rather " unusual" lifestyle. Real far out dude.

Damn right it was, and if you didn't like the movie maybe you dont have enough experience with drugs other than weed. I didnt like Cheech and Chong when I was 13 but now I understand it completely and love all films that celebrate the 60's & 70's and drug use, especially tripping. Anyone ever see the novie with Dennis Hopper in The Trip, its about a guys first acid experience. The guy freaks out, just an all around great movie, worth the rental fee if you can find it and you like Hippy movies.

Requiem for Dream is another awesome drug movie....it will make sure you never wanna do herion, and makes Trainspotting seem fairly tame.

That I agree with, Requiem for a Dream was an amazing film in my eyes. I watched Trainspotting after Requiem, and exactly as you said, it didn't seem nearly as, I guess there's no real good word to use here, simply not as noir or deep. I mean requiem really made me feel strong emotions for these characters, it was a disgustingly enticing movie. Trainspotting was a little too, happy go lucky, and upbeat for what it seemed to be trying to portray.

....a black comedy about drugs?. I think it served it's purpose very well as it happens. It's much easier to do a movie like 'Requiem' that's just the straight forward roller coaster ride into the dark hole, plus, there's plenty more dark shit in the book 'Trainspotting' that never made it to the movie.

As for 'Fear and Loathing' I think a bit of age and a few hardcore weekend excursions with a bag fulla drugs under yer belt.... and you'd 'get it' a lot more.

Like how you laid that out for him DC, you ever seen Free Amsterdam the Movie, I found the link to it yesterday, www.freeamsterdamthemoviee.com.

Its a movie about squatter bums in Amsterdam, doing all kinds of drugs, the trailer has a bag of coke that probably weighs 4-5g, a black Lenny Kravitz wannabe who smokes heroin and hash mixed, public acid/E party, and some useless squatter scenes
