April 13-26, 2011 Christiania, Netherlands, Suggestions?

Post by SGawain235 »

FlybyNight: Don't put me on the "In town" page just yet. I'll let you know when I've bought tickets and am "locked in". :)

Ok, so I've heard a lot of stuff from a lot of people about my potential destinations so I'm posting it here for some ideas.

I'm going to be going to Europe from April 13-26.

Right now the plan as it stands is as follows.

April 13- Copenhagen: I'm thinking of spending a day or so hitting the museums and seeing Christiania. I've heard from some people that Christiania is the best thing EVAR, others say it is basically a roving police convention. TBH, I'm not too interested in the weed/hash as I'll be getting ALL of that squared away later. I'm mostly interested in the culture, maybe find out about the arts and crafts type stuff.

April 15- Raalte, Netherlands: Now this is where things get a bit tricky(but not really). I'm thinking of going to Schipol from Copenhagen and from there going to Raalte so that way I can catch these guys . At first I thought about doing the trains but then I saw that taking a plane from Copenhagen to Amsterdam was like 50 euros tops.

April 16- Amsterdam, Netherlands: The planned points of interest for this visit will be(hopefully) Toke & Talks, Sober Serious Museum Day, De Peper , the Elf Fantasy Faire , trying truffles, and that's about it.

April 21- After an insane few days in Amsterdam, I will go to my own little "safe" place, Reykjavik. There I will drink, A LOT, maybe meet up with That Iceland Guy, catch a show, maybe. Hug a glacier? I don't know, I'll do Iceland things. Maybe a jungle drum will be involved , no clue.

So, does anybody have any suggestions? Maybe stunning arguments for or against Christiania? Somewhere that is just Celtic-y/Pagan-y as the Elf Fantasy Fair and Omnia? New and interesting arguments for why I should get into a program to overcome my Iceland addiction and just stay in Amsterdam until April 25?

Your input is noted and appreciated,

Your wino friend,

SG235

Y'see, I thought about that but that goes against the rules of Super Serious Museum Day.

Ok, maybe I should elaborate on Sober Serious Museum Day.

This is the day when I go to all of the depressing museums that I feel I should go to as someone who was an anti-facist activist.

The two big ones are the Dutch Resistance Museum and the Anne Frank house. After this I plan to go to the nearest CS and get myself baked to the point of oblivion. I will most likely be asking for coffeeshops near either location in the future to facilitate this. However, for the day I go there is no drinking, smoking, etc. Totally sober and totally serious.

However, there is a strong possibility for a Fun Happy Museum Day in which truffles would not only be allowed but also a fine idea.

I know, right? I was thinking for me it was a win/win no matter what happens. If it has hash that I can get then I'll get a smidge of that and immerse myself in the sights and craftsy stuff.

If there is no hash and/or it is a real hassle then I will immerse myself in the sights and craftsy stuff and maybe add an extra museum or two.

Either way since there are a lot of threats to Christiania due to rising property values in northern Europe I'd like to see it while it is still there to see. Too bad I can't get one of their bikes.
