Three men have been arrested in Amsterdam on terrorism charges at the request of the Belgian authorities, the public prosecution department said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
The men, aged 25, 26 and 28, have been under observation for some time and now face extradition to Belgium, the department said.
One arrest took place in Osdorp. Eyewitnesses told the Telegraaf some 15 masked men stormed
the building where the man had lived for a short time and was not known to his neighbours.
Threat
'There was not yet a specific target for the plot,' according to the statement. 'The investigation also focused on recruiters, candidate jihad fighters and the funding of a Chechen terror organisation called the Caucasian Emirate.'
A spokeswoman for the counter terrorism unit NCTb said there was no threat to attack targets in the Netherlands. Nor is it connected to the current alert in Germany, the spokeswoman said.
The Belgian authorities said in total of 10 people in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany have been arrested. They have Dutch, Belgian, Moroccan and Russian nationality.
Belgian newspaper Standaard says the investigation has been under way for a year.
