the major evil forces behind this were Hearst to protect his paper industries( you all remember the Constitution is written on hemp...)
and DuPont were coming out with plastics - many of which competed with Hemp byproducts.
now many other industries are in it too - the petro chemicals and the pharmas - why let people smoke some herb when a doctor can "prescribe" some other mind fucking substance with side effects that they can cash in on?
At least Canada is sticking it to the US and Hemp is growing by leaps and bounds there - the government is actualy underwriting many Hemp industries and helping them enhance the technology.
