BusinessFirst is nice, last time I flew 18+ hours in economy and that sucked as Im almost 6'4, the freaking guy in front of me had his seat back the whole effing trip!
I looked at business class but went for first class for my first time ever, cant wait! Good Luck Balou
Super jealous of u UK guys I would be in AMS every month at least if it was that cheap and quick
SWU = System Wide Upgrade. I'm 6'3" so I know the feeling. The only time I spring for First is when I'm on the company dime loke when we go to New Zealand next spring and tickets were almost 10k! But it'll make a huge difference on an ultra long haul flight, 17 hours.
Peace,
Balou
Are you stoned? Like a gravel road bitch, like a gravel road!

Nice ...Its like a whole other experience at that end o the plane. Address you by name and everything ...such a shame I don't drink, or I'd have been wasted by the time I hit dutch soil....having them bring me unlimited glasses of water is not quite the same
Flew KLM last year and it was probably the most comfortable international flight I'd ever been on. Got in last November from ATL for about $900 roundtrip, and luckily got hooked up with a buddy pass this year for about $370. It means I could sit at the airport for a little bit and miss a flight/s, but Detroit (where I'd connect from) has at least 2 or 3 flights to AMS each day and that time of year most won't be full.
Glad things have dropped down to allow more folks to go this fall/winter...summer rates from the US were just insane.
Purchasing my ticket in 11 days so I'll let you know then. When I checked a couple weeks ago I could have got it for $1050 which is pretty good from Portland, but I didn't have the money then. Last time I checked it had gone up to $1172 so who knows what it will be like on 9/14. I might wait till the following Tuesday until 3PM EST as I heard that is the best time to buy a ticket (but before Thursday). One thing I know is that this time I'm flying nonstop. Unfortunately, KLM doesn't fly out of PDX so I have to fly Delta (a KLM partner). Hopefully I can come in under $1200. Last March I paid only $775, but that was with stops in Chicago and Dublin. Not doing that again!
The trip I just got back from, My father paid for the ticket primarily with 'Airmiles' 1500 of those bought us two return tickets with British Airways to A'dam. Everything was included too. Check in fee, 2 suitcases, tax, fuel etc...
Nice flight and at 7am.. pretty empty. So's I spread outs my legs on the seats.
My upcoming trip cost €177 - 2nd class train ticket (5 1/2hrs each way), and one night's lodging w/breakfast in a 3* hotel. Not bad considering I had to change my travel plans at the last minute.
My cheapest trip so far was €153 - round trip economy ticket with KLM (1 1/4hrs each way) and one night's lodging w/breakfast in a 4* hotel.
Both of these trips were package deals, so I'm not sure if the transportation costs were discounted. The train ticket mentioned above would cost me approximately €126 if purchased separately (last minute fare), and the airfare €88 + taxes and fees. The former can be considerably less if purchased at least 6-8 weeks in advance (€58.50), while the latter is only available by making reservations at least 1 month in advance with one or more overnights. Forget last minute airfare, €250+.
I paid about $600 in November 2002, $450 in January 2004 and $875 for my ticket leaving this month. All were round trip tickets. I actually got a deal this time for $875 and could have easily paid $1200. If airfare was as cheap as it used to be I would go more often.
