How much do you spend getting to A'dam?
Re: How much do you spend getting to A'dam?
if you fly out to schipol and back to glasgow, wed to wed and book at least 3 weeks before you go it costs £55 return with easyjet.
i flew with klm at the new year, missed my flight book in time, arrived at 6.30am flight was at 7.05am and they would not let us book in.
as i had taken my family it cost me £600 to fly home later that day with easyjet.
they seem to have a sensible departure time - afternoon or evening. trying to get to the airport first thing in the morning is difficult if you live outside amsterdam city centre and are relying on trams.

So say about £100 when you include petrol, car park, Schipol to Centraal etc.
Pretty fucking cheap!
Makes me want to book round 2 before i even have round 1 out of the way this year!
We're gonna drive through again in August, even though we're going in like 26 days lol!
Re: How much do you spend getting to A'dam?
i drive over quite a bit.
from glasgowto amsterdam takes 12-15hrs including dover to dunkirk ferry. i try to leave in afternoon and arrive early next morning.
if you book ferry online and in advance it costs about £30 return for a car and 4 people, if you wait til you get to the ferry to pay without booking online it can be £80+ single.
total cost for ferry and fuel from glasgow to amsterdam and back is approx. £250
not bad if theres 4 of you splitting the cost

Re: How much do you spend getting to A'dam?
For my august trip it is costing £62, both flights being more like peak time seeing as they are afternoon flights going and coming back. Even that includes £9 "admin fee" so the flight itself is only £53 which is a decent price for late august seeing as booked well in advance.

Would have been £12.50 charge for using my credit card!! Worst part is you don't realise at point of booking that there will be a fee to use your card so you end up having to pay it!! That's a snidey tactic like but they are still by far the cheapest up here
They've changed it this week, no fee for using your debit card (I think it's about £9 for a cc) but they've introduced a £9 admin fee on all bookings (I think it's £9 per transaction so if you book 2 flights it's £9 not 2x), it pisses me off but they're still pretty cheap if you book far enough in advance, BMI come in about the same price, I'd rather go on the back of a donkey than fly with Ryanair again.
Strange , I used EasyJet today and was charged the administration fee (never couple weeks back)

I think thats the airlines not just Easyjets responce to avoid loosing the profit they make by charging several quid for credit\debit card charges.
That new £8 (I'm sure I was charged £9 with Easyjet) "admin" fee seems to cover the processing cost of the debit payment card along with anything else they have classed as "admin" in the charge. Seems only credit cards now get charges an aditional £5 or so for booking using 1 of those, but that £5 credit card fee is also on top of the £9 admin fee from what I read when booking my flight.
In other words the old £5 fee for debit cards is now £9 but simply re-worded as admin fee instead. While credit card users will probably have to pay the £9 admin fee and the £4.95 credit card fee.

right now the price for Can Cup is around $1,100 CDN which is on par or better than the USD right now. Price really should be 200-300$ less considering the buying power of the CDN dollar. Will continue to wait for the $700 one day seat sale on KLM that should come at some point over the next 6 months.
Amsterdam dreaming.............

The annoying this is it was always free when using Visa Electron. I opened up a Halifax account just so I could have a Visa Electron card, for booking flights, as I book quite a few each year. Now its not free anymore as there's still the £8 charge!Dave J wrote:I think thats the airlines not just Easyjets responce to avoid loosing the profit they make by charging several quid for credit\debit card charges.

Yeah my mum had\has 1 of the electron cards. The reason why they have changed the card charges to "admin" charges that include the card processing fee is because I think they have to stop directly charging the several quid by govertnment insistance or something?. And are simply hoping that by charging a more expensive "admin" fee but then not directly charging any fee for debit card payments (that actually only cost a few pence to process) that they will then avoid the having to drop the card fee charges.abc123 wrote:The annoying this is it was always free when using Visa Electron. In fact I dont think before this government move on card charges to be dropped any of the airl;ines ever had an "admin" fee at all so have changed the wording in advance to cover there backs.
Re: How much do you spend getting to A'dam?

I usually spend £50 getting from Glasgow to Amsterdam
Return i always comeback by train, Amsterdam to St Pancras is about 50 Euros and London to Glasgow about £30 on the Megabus Sleeper.
The sleeper is actually a cracking way to do it, bring a cake back, scoff it in Eurotunnel and by the time you get Victoria for departure. it is nap time and the next thing you know you are back in Glasgow
Happy days, well in 5 days time it will be baked days
Meeoow
