Glad you're enjoying em mate! More to come...

Yes, I usually do change the settings for each photo.

First thing, I set the ISO and the white balance according to where I am (indoors, outdoors, bright light, low light etc). Then the aperture and/or the shutter speed. If I'm indoors, with low light and difficult shooting conditions (as in most of these photos) I'll tend to use full auto mode, to squeeze every last bit of performance out of the camera. If I'm walking around the streets, the light levels are changing all the time, and so I'll generally use Aperture priority mode so the camera looks after the shutter speed at least.

Same with focusing - if I'm sitting down taking photos of one object, I'll use manual focus. Walking around, changing conditions, I use auto focus.
You really need to give a class when im over in April  i jus point and shoot but i am very interested in photography was thinking of taking a class (An Art Foundation course) Seen a great docu last night have you seen it ? Teenage Papperazzo

I'd be happy to give you some pointers cisco! Remind me about it when you're in town. Cool that you're interested in photography. The best way to get good at taking photos is simply by taking a shitload of photos. I do have training, but I only got good at it because I take 10 to 15 thousand photos a year. Yes, I've got issues  But seriously, this is some golden advice that took me years to work out. Technical skills are nice, but they are useless if the photo has no emotion or story behind it. Too many people think its about the camera. And so they waste ridiculous amounts of money on buying better and better gear, but taking the same old boring photos, just in a higher resolution.

I haven't seen that doco, will check it out, thanks!

Yeah but still loving and getting to grips with my "beercan" lens. Just goes to show that often the old ones really are the best.

Lovely pics, Bleak! I take my hat off to you. This has prompted me to want to take my DSLR to Amsterdam now. I am always worried about leaving it somewhere when baked so always ended up leaving it behind

Keep up the pics! Is this a thread for anyone to post or just yours? Hopefully I will have some stuff to show when I return from my trip in Feb :D
