The staff pronounce it Dahmpkring because of their accents.
And it is atmospherre or smoke ring. They told me so when I asked.
How ever you say it, it's the best place ever.

Just out of central station when arriving I'd say:
"EXCUSE ME SIR, DO YOU KNOW WHERE IS DEH DOHMPKRING?
When I leave dampkring it turns to:

This is how you you pronounce it if you are seriously that hellbent on getting the pronounciation right...
Get to Amsterdam Centraal, find a bar - get pissed drunk on serious shizzle, til you're almost incoherent, then go up to a local and ask him quite plainly - in your most plainly forced English accent "Excuse me sir, where is the dampkring?" it'll sound something like this "Skoosh me shire, vher iszh dher Dhompkring?" which is very very dutchlike IMO

now you just need to work out how to pronounce tweede kamer (tvayder kahmer)
and sanementeerung (....anyone's guess. I actually asked them last time I was there, but I've forgotten the answer. Its the name of a place in africa, i think)

Well, I figured that if you say "sandman" and "Ourangutan" together/combined/really fast - you get the name of the coffeeshop...
Twede Kahmer? (Feck)
Try Saying "weedy" ok got it? Right - now you gotta put t "T" before the "weedy" part - SO its "Tweedy" - then for the Kahmer part... forget it... I cant do this, who's gotta light?
