The Old Nickel, Amsterdam. Has anyone stayed here?

imo everyone should at least try Priceline NYOP (bidding),, only bad thing is you will not get a smoke friendly hotel,, but for me i dont care, but i do know you will pay 2* prices for a 4* hotel,, , if anyone eants more info on bidding check out tripadvisor there is a entire thread all about bidding on priceline, some folks even post there wining bids, , like last November, i stayed at the NH Amsterdam Centre (leidseplein) for $59.00 a night, thats usd ,

I stayed there in November with a friend they allowed smoking of tobacco in the bar they also allowed us to make joints in the bar but had to smoke them at the door the whole hotel part stunk of bud and hash but they do say its non smoking we smoked in the room just opened the window and they never said anything about it on the last night one of the staff did let us smoke weed in the bar but there were only 3 of us in there she asked the other guy if he minded if we smoked weed in the bar and he rolled one himself (happy days lol)

I stayed here last week, the bar appeared to be totally non smoking now although I didn't spend much time there. I don't think you're meant to smoke in the rooms but the lads in the next room stunk the whole floor out (not that I was complaining) and I don't think anything was said.
The room was basic but clean as was the shared toilet and the price was outstanding.

i agree with amdamman it is basic but like he said its clean cheap and in a fantastic location (i wouldnt book it for a romantic weekend with the missus but its great for a lads/girls weekend)

Stayed in the old nickel like 2 years back for
2 weekends ( fri to sun ), was in Europe for training.
Rooms are really small, but at least at the time could
smoke my night cap
Breakfast was also ok, nothing special:
2 eggs sunny side up, ham,toast and as much
coffee as you want.
Would say the breakfast was better than that
of the bull dog hotel.

I stayed here august last year (I think) and upon checking in was told that I could smoke anything in the room. Room was clean but very basic didn't bother with breakfast

One of the Best locations i must say, Hunters right next door, cheap hotel next to everything that is centrum!
