ok first thing i would like to do is apologize for calling you a bigoted cunt but thats just how i react to being called a prick and a fucking wanker for no reason, but hey this is only the internet and its not like that was meant to scare or make me angry is it?. And second is i'll ask you again where i have offended you or are you just coming at me because I mentioned the armed forces with a different opinion to you so therefore I must be wrong?gixxer wrote:everything youve said in this thread offended me ,,,,, so as far as this "bigoted cunt" is concerned, you can go fuck yourself, ya fucking wanker

"K.S." My grammer and spelling are not that great. I spent a lot of time thinking about how i would word all my replies on this particular thead, because i know that the armed services may be one thing, but put that together with the two countries mentioned in particular, the middle east in general, the politics of the area, the politics now and then of the countries who have forces in any of the two countries, the different views held world wide on the topic, add a splash of oil, a sprinkling of different religions, cultures and a few other secret ingredients i can't think of at the moment, or haven't been told about and you get something that makes "Semtex", look like "Playdough"(Silly putty in the U.S., i think. )
First and foremost, what the thread was originally about.
"K.S." You know what, how about something that goes along the lines of this? "Safe and happy Christmas and New Year, to all the service people around the world and lets not forget the nurses, doctors etc..", my reply "Well said K.S., lets not forget all the deserving people and give them a mention as well in the thread."
Either that, or start your own thread
Forgot to mention the last time, I'm glad you have respect for those who served in WW2
I'm sure you read all my post you mentioned in part 2 of your post, but it was the next sentence that was important to the context of the point i was trying to make. For the first time you mentioned nurses, doctors, police and the fire brigade, which drew a comparison with the armed services.(If not, then why not welders, carpet fitters, plumbers and taxi-drivers) As i said, if you wished to include a group of people who normally receive respect and praise for doing their jobs in the "Merry Christmas.." thread i have no problem with that. In your second post you asked, "My point is this, why should i respect..." The respect anyone has, or shows, for any one group of people, or individual people is, or should be, entirely down to themselves. That's what makes the world go round and it's certainly true of the forum. I can't remember which "ACD" member it is, but they summed it up beautifully."It's called an opinion".
In the same post you said "I DO RESPECT the men and women..."
So, what i think you're saying here K.S. is you make no distinction in the respect you show, or the praise you give, as people chose the job and are paid for it. Which up to a point i can agree with you. Respect and praise for any individual should be earned, regardless of the job they do. However, i for one give greater respect and praise to occupations like nurses, doctors, police(At times!!) the fire brigade and the armed forces. Especially when they are placed under certain circumstances, i.e. conflicts and far from home from loved ones.
I'm not so sure about respect and praise when it comes to lots of bankers, lawyers, estate agents, greedy self serving politians, newspaper reporters, sweat shop owers, some civil servants etc.. All of whom chose their jobs and are paid for them.
But i bet that wasn't what you ment either.
3. All the people made choices to join whichever profession they chose. All as far as i'm concerned still come into the category of jobs that receive respect and praise when they only have to be mentioned. People posted here to show their appreciation of the armed forces, especially at this time. The choice to "join" can bring with it some very serious/deadly consequencies at times, as can the police, fire brigade and many others. but more so the armed services. With that comes respect and praise in my book. That is why i asked, "Is this what you did not understand about the army?"
Why join the services, as you say there are many reasons and lots to debate. Start a new thread!!
4 That quote"All of their troops..." is your words from your second post.
"You take the money..." I killed my own arguement? You join the army, they pay you, they tell you where you go. It's the armies "ball" and they tell you the rules to play by.
Does a nurse or doctor say"I'm not dressing that wound, it's horrible looking".
Does a fireman say "I'm not going into that house to save the trapped children, i might get a burn".
5 Sorry, but no, people in the army have no choice if they work on Christmas day or indeed where the army/Government chooses to send them.Read my reply to that. When you join the army many decisions are made on your behalf. That is the understanding clearly made to you before you join up.
You choose not to join the army and like others who did the same are not subject to their rules and regulations. What you said in your first post bears little resemblance to what you wrote in this point.
6 Lets agree to differ. I can 100% agree with this, otherewise the world would be a very boring place to live!
Two things, would it have broke your heart to mention in a "Merry Christmas to our troops" thread, to all those serving in dangerous places,"Be safe". If you have already done this sorry.
Lastly, i'm totally without any smoke of any kind. Smoke a joint for me
. Cheers.

This what i think.king solomon wrote:melb-dam-lover wrote:I listen to all of these NBA players and coaches, all on millions of dollars a year and absolute superstars, complaining about having to "work" on Christmas Day. Well, they should stop and think about those serving overseas, who have to spend the day in a foreign and dangerous land, all to ensure you have an OPPORTUNITY to work and play on Christmas Day at all.
sorry mate, but neither do the people in the army "have" to work on xmas day, they choose to be there the same way i chose not to join the army, i really dont understand all this special praise the people in the army get for doing a job they wanted to do and get paid for. dont get me wrong i respect them for their choice and definatly have praise for those who served in ww2 (because in them days you didnt have a choice about joining the army or not) but i just dont get this "love in" for "our" troops.
While we're here lets give a happy xmas to all the firefighters, old bill, doctors etc. That do a difficult job.
Off topic and apologies for that.

"K.S", I hope you're are smokin' that joint for me
"Has....mypipe" toke that up Bro. I'm tryin' for some of that passive smoke through my laptop, or is that just my leg that's on fire
"Sir Niall..", Here, here. There's a lot of deserving people out there.
"Gixxer", 18 years in the forces and only made it home 3 times to celebrate Christmas with friends, family, wife and children growing up? Respect, multiplied by 15.
I'm all for peace breakin' out.
