Re: Lamont's Live Report - Jan 1-12
Thanks to everyone for the very flattering compliments. I'm really enjoying writing this trip report and glad you and enjoying reading it!
Day 6 - Thursday
Another winter morning in Amsterdam. This morning I'm planning a little side trip before hitting the office, but the morning routine is the same. Shower, shave, breakfast at the hotel with the iPad in front of me reading any new posts to the ACD forum overnight.
Just one quick mention for those looking for a nice fancy breakfast, the restaurant at the Renaissance puts on a pretty good breakfast buffet. I grew particularly fond of their scrambled eggs, which are great spread on toast. Coming from the US, I've gotten very fond of the creamier style of european scrambled eggs over the course of my trips. Anyway, if you want a fancy breakfast this is a good, albiet pricey, option.
So, the morning routine taken care of I'm out the door and on my way. This morning I'm headed down to a Goochem Speelgoed to pick up some toys for the kids before going to work. Out of the hotel I make my way to Nieuwezjds Kolk and the number 1 tram bound for Osdorp de Aker. After a brief 12 minutes I arrive at my stop, Overtoom. A quick orientation using the iPhone's compass and I've soon found Goochem at 1e Constantijn Huijgensstraat 80. This is a pretty cool toy store with all kinds of quality toys from around the world. I enjoyed checking out all the cool european toys but I do have to say though I found it hard to find toys that were actually from Holland. I picked out a few things and proceeded to pay. One word of warning for travellers from the US if you go here, they don't accept credit cards with out a chip and pin.
Purchases made it's time to head in to work. I finish off a SoGouda j as I make my way back to the Overtoom tram stop. Now, here's where a smartphone comes in handy...consulting google maps I find that I need to take the number 12 tram from here to Amstelstation, and from there transfer to the usual Metro 54 to Gein. So easy and makes me look like I know the place.

I get to work and crank through the tasks for the day. We are opening the office on the following Monday so things will really start to ramp up for me as we approach the weekend...today's a little slower hence the side trip to Goochem. I work until about 6pm and then walk back in the dark and cold to the metro station. I had picked up a small glass piece for the hash I'm sampling the night before and so used that to have a few hits of the Gerdera from Papillon on the way back to the station. Very, very nice smoke.
Back to the hotel for a quick freshen up after work and then I'm eager to head out for the night. There's just something very nice about being able to go out for smoke or two (or three or four!
) after work and before bed. First stop though is dinner at Burger Bar. I have to say that while I enjoyed it I didn't think it was as good as the burgers I had from there in August. perhaps it really is going downhill?
Dinner sorted and time for my first stop, DeKuil. I really fancy this place if I'm in the mood for a bit of people watching because there are always interesting folks coming in here of all different ages and nationalities. It's a great place to go and have a smoke at the bar and chat with those around you. First stop, budtender's counter. I like all the tenders in this place they are all very friendly and willing to discuss the menu with you. First up, 420 Kush, 12 euros/gram. This smelled really nice in the tub.
DeKuil-420 Kush (sorry for the poor quality this is iphone camera):

In addition to the 420 Kush I also picked up another gram of the NYCD from here. I really like this smoke and at 12 euros/gram it's a relative bargain for what I think is a high quality smoke. I'm pretty sure I already posted a pic of this weed from earlier so I won't repost.
The 420 Kush was a very nice smoke but it did not give me the full couch locking stone I was looking for to send me off to sleep. So after about an hour or so I headed out into the night. My feet started finding their own way back towards the Singel and my usual last stop for the night, Amnesia. I'm sure I may get some heat from folks for not trying somewhere else this night but I just find Amnesia to be a real chill place to smoke at the end of the night, especially on a weeknight when it's not crowded. When I've been in the Dam my two trips I've considered it my "local" c/s.
I arrive at Amnesia and as mentioned it's not packed which I like. Three tables are occupied but there is still plenty of room to plop down on the comfy leather benches and enjoy the vibe. I drop my stuff on said bench and make my way to the counter and flip over the menu. I had mentioned I wanted couch lock so another kush is in order, 1g of Vanilla Kush please (13 euro/gram). Smelled divine in the tub and is just a very smooth smoke in a pure joint. I also got another gram of Tangerine Dream because I had enjoyed the previous sample I got. The sativa high makes for a great wake and bake so I saved that for the morning.
Weed purchases sorted I head over to the bar and order my absolute favorite drink in the Dam, the Limonana. This is an amazing blended drink consisting of Lime+Mint+Sugar+Ice. To quote another post that I've seen on this board "yum fucking yum"!!
If you go to Amnesia you absolutely must have one of these...I usually have 3 or 4 of em over the course of my time in the Dam. It helps cool your throat down after a long night of toking.
Limonana - Amnesia (note this pic is from a different day, hence the daylight
):

I finished off the night with this yummy drink and a 1 gram cone of the Vanilla Kush. Nighty night!
More later....in the meantime enjoy this somewhat grainy iphone pic I took on the way back to the hotel:

Re: Lamont's Live Report - Jan 1-12
Day 7 - Friday
I was running a little low in the sativa department so before I headed off to work I made a stop at Hunter's on Warmeostraat (the one with the fishtanks). Upon this occasion I had an opportunity to interact with the infamous spanish budtender that I've read so much about here. While he definitely loves to slam the tubs down on the counter I didn't have any problems with him. When I asked to see the Amnesia Haze he plonked the tub down on the counter with a smile. A beautiful nug caught my eye and I asked him to weigh it out for me. "1.4g ok?" Yes sir no problem! 19.50 euros for that amount. I sat down at the table and quickly skinned up my purchase. The bud was super sticky and had a nice smell to it, I lit up and had a few puffs before heading out the door with a wave. I finished off the j as I made my way to the metro station by way of Voyager's. Sadly Voyager's was once again closed at this hour even though it was after 8 am. Does this place really open at 8 or is that just a myth?

The lovely amnesia haze woke up my senses and gave me a nice buzzing head high. I just love this strain and it's been good no matter where I get it. Great stuff. It also wakes up my photography bug and I snapped the following pics as I was meandering my way towards Voyager's and the Metro station:

I put in a full day at work and as it is Friday some of my coworkers and I decide to go out for a nice dinner. A big fat steak was in order so we walked over to Toro Dorado which is just across the street from our hotel. Now I know this place may not be THE BEST steak in Amsterdam, but I have to say mine was pretty damn good. A lovely filet mignon with a beautiful sauce, paired with a nice strong Belgian beer, Duvel. For dessert, the most amazing apple pie I have ever had in my life. Even weeks later my head still swoons thinking about it.
All of this was served by an amazingly beautiful and flirty Dutch waitress. Heaven!
After dinner I said goodbye to my coworkers and headed out into the night. I had such a good time at Homegrown Fantasy the other night I decided to give that spot another try. Different budtender working this night but he was a pretty cool guy as well. Noticed they had Casey Jones on the menu tonight. May I see that please? He opened the tub and I was greeted with a tub full of sparkly stinky goodness. Oh yes 1 gram of that please! (15 euros/gram). Also purchased another gram of the Cheese as he mentioned that they were almost out of it and may not be getting more (12.50 euros/gram).
I grabbed a nice cozy table and began to break up the Casey Jones. As I did so the smell got even more intense and my fingers became sticky from this wonderful bud. I filled up a nice cone of it and lit up. As I was enjoying this j and writing my notes for the day a delightful stone spread across my whole body like a warm blanket. I'm sure that was matched by a stupid grin spreading across my face!
Very, very nice smoke. I enjoyed the stone and the vibe before I walked back to the hotel. I finished the evening off with a j of the Hindu Kush from Club Media enjoyed on the roof of my hotel in the crisp winter night. Damn I love this city!!!!
More soon!

Re: Lamont's Live Report - Jan 1-12
Day 8 - Saturday
Today was the big moving day for my company's office, moving all the users' gear as well as all my IT infrastructure from our temporary office to the new permanent facility. So it was up even earlier than normal to get over to the temp office to meet the movers and remove all my gear from the rack. Smoked up a J of the tangerine dream on the way over. This smoke may be a bit overhyped but I like it.
I wanted to get to work early and get stuff done so I could have a few hours of daylight on a Saturday. I finished bringing all my infrastructure online in the new office and performing all my QA testing at around 2pm. The rest of the day was now mine!!
It was a beautiful day with no clouds so I was really looking forward to having a walk around after work.
Took the metro back to the Centrum. Dropped my laptop at the hotel, grabbed my camera, and made a beeline for the Grey Area. I had been wanting to get back here all week but I was always working and could never get their before closing time. Today was my lucky day as it wasn't insanely crowded and my favorite budtender, John, was working. John is just so super friendly and knowledgeable, always has time to chat with you about the product and anything else. He is my absolute favorite BT in Amsterdam. Believe it or not he actually remembered me from my previous visit in August and asked me how long I was in town for this time.
On this day he was having a laugh at himself because he was having such a hard time using his new iphone 4. I gave him a few tips before I started looking over the gear.
First up, I asked to see the Chocolope. Oh my god it smelled sooo good. I'll take one gram of that please (13 euros/gram).
Grey Area-Chocolope (with my pile o' bags in the background):

Next up, may I please see the Trainwreck? Also incredibly nice, smelled great and covered in crystals (sorry no pic). 1 gram please, 13 euros/gram.
Last but definitely not least, Grey Mist Crystals (unpressed Silver Bubble trichomes). .5 gram, 9 euros. I love this stuff it makes a great topper for a bongload or mixed into a pure joint.
Purchases sorted I borrowed a clean bong from John and passed a very pleasant hour smoking the Chocolope. This bud just tastes great, especially out of a bong. Had a nice chat with some Amsterdam first timers from Alabama and gave them some tips on what to do and see. Also had a good time chatting with John about various topics including the prospect of a wietpas. His opinion was it was unlikely to happen but if it did it would take years to implement.
My weed supply restocked next order of business was dinner. Over to Kolksteeg and Wok to Walk. Love this place must have eaten there like 3 or 4 times during my trip. Perfect food for cold weather. I had another early morning the next day so back to the hotel. Before bed a joint of the Trainwreck smoked along the Singel just outside my hotel. So peaceful.
A great time in Grey Area and a great day. More to come later!

Renaissance Amsterdam. Nice hotel and a great location. Though I wouldn't stay there if I was paying...Dimon wrote:Nice story Lamont, very good pictures. What hotel did you stay in?

Excellent report Lamont, thanks for sharing! The photos are superb also, I love that one on the first page.
A question, if you don't mind: What would you recommend from 420/De Kuil as a nice sativa? It will be our first stop when we get off the train in 2 weeks and it would be nice to pick up something to keep us going through the day. Do you remember if they done any good 5g deals on a nice sativa?
Thanks once again for the report, looking forward to the rest

If they have it in stock, I really like de Kuil's Super Silver Haze. It was the first weed i ever smoked in the Dam and i loved it. Tremendous up high. They were out of it there the whole time I was in town.Glas wrote:

I think they do give a 5g discount but I never bought in that quantity....I like to try lots of different things so tend to stick with smaller amounts.
Glad you are enjoying my report and I'm quite fond of that first picture too...it's now the wallpaper on most of my computers....

Re: Lamont's Live Report - Jan 1-12
Day 9 - Sunday
Things had been going so smoothly at work that I was able to get my remaining tasks done in just a half day. Final finishing touches on the IT infrastructure sorted and the office was finished and ready for folks to move in the next day. And I was ready to get out and enjoy my last weekend in Amsterdam.
When I had been at Grey Area yesterday chatting with John I had asked about the Mean Martian Green. I had heard good things about it and wanted to try it but they were out. John was very nice and said he would "check at home" to see if he had any stock left and wrote it down in his notebook. Told me to check back next day. So first stop after finishing work and dropping my laptop at the hotel was once again Grey Area. It was another nice day in the Dam and I enjoyed my walk down the Singel in the crisp winter sunshine. Arrived at Grey Area and John was not working but I inquired about the MMG...sadly still none available. No problem, lots of other things to choose from here so I perused the menu for something I had not tried yet. The Chiesel caught my eye and I asked to have a look. The bud tender presented me with a tub of lovely dark green buds covered in red hairs that smelled great. oh yes, 1 gram please, 12.50 euros/gram.
The shop was once again not crowded so I decided to take advantage of it and borrowed a bong. I finished up the last of the Gerdera hash from Papillon in the bong before heading on my way. I really enjoyed the Gerdera it was a quality hash with a lovely taste and high.
I was planning on heading back down to de Pijp to try and hit De Graal again but looking at the clock I knew they were not yet open. So before heading down there I walked around the corner to Herengracht and up one block to Amnesia. The place was a bit crowded so I had to take one of the "window" seats on a stool. Before settling in tough I visited the tender's counter and asked to see the G13 Haze. I had really enjoyed this smoke on my last trip but had not yet had a chance to sample it. The tender showed me the gear and it did not disappoint, covered in crystals and smelling amazing. I purchased 1 gram of that at 13 euros/gram. In addition to the bud I also ordered up another one of those lovely Limonana drinks and made my way to my seat to roll up a fat cone. At this point the Chiesel was calling my name so I pulled out that bud and began to break it up. Before doing so I snapped the following pic for you of this fine gear:
Grey Area - Chiesel:

I ground up the Chiesel, filled a 1 gram cone of the stuff and lit up. I was rewarded with a hugely expansive smoke with a lovely flavor. The cross of Cheese and NYCD gave me a tremendous soaring high that I really enjoyed. It went well with the tunes being played in Amnesia which as usual were bumpin' and much to my liking. I finished off the cone and my drink and made my way out the door. The wonderful high made the walk along the canals of Amsterdam even more enjoyable and I was really savoring my last Sunday in Mokum.
From Amnesia I made my way back towards Dam Square so I could catch the tram. Before hitting De Pijp I had one more stop to make to pick up some more goodies for my kids back home. So I caught Tram 16 from Dam Square and rode it out to Muntplien. My destination was a fun little shop that goes by the name "De Beestenwinkel". Located at Staalstrat 26 this little shop specializes in all toys animal related, in particular stuffed animals. I spent about 20 minutes in here deciding which particular animal to get for each one of my sons...it probably took longer under the influence of the Chiesel.
Once selected the very nice lady wrapped up my purchases and I was on my way. Back to the tram stop and on the number 16 again, destination Albert Cuypmarkt.
My tram arrived just shortly before 4pm and I knew I had some time to kill before De Graal opened so I walked up and down a canal snapping pictures to pass the time.

There's also a little strip of red light district here so I enjoyed watching some other men walking up and down the street trying to make a selection....
Eventually from across the road I saw someone opening up De Graal so I made my way over. This is one of those shops where you make your purchases before entering the shop proper so I spent some time looking over the menu. I had wanted to sample some hash from here so I asked the nice bud lady for some recommendations. She made a few recommendations but I ultimately settled on a nice 20 euro bag of the Kashmiri. From the weed menu I selected Amnesia Haze and she presented me with a few bags to choose from. The weed was a bargain compared to centrum prices at only 10 euro/gram. Purchases sorted I also ordered a cappucino and made my way to the upstairs area. This part of the shop has nice plush chairs with windows that look out the back. A very nice place to chill and enjoy a smoke....
DeGraal:

My coffee was delivered as I rolled up a cone of the Amnesia Haze. The bud was very well cured and turned to a nice powder in my grinder. (Sorry no pic). I have to say this was the best sample of Amnesia Haze I had the entire trip and it fucked me up proper, with a high that stuck with me for hours!
Pretty amazing considering where my tolerance was at after smoking weed nonstop for nine days. Loved this bud so much I picked up another gram on the way out!
By the time I finished at De Graal it was getting dark so I caught the tram back to the Centrum. Grabbed dinner once again at Wok To Walk. Back at the hotel room I pulled out the G13 Haze from Amnesia and rolled a cone of it for my nightcap. The bud was covered in crystals and very sticky. Yum!
Amnesia - G13 Haze:

Joint rolled I went outside and walked across to the Singel to enjoy it. It was a quiet Sunday night and I enjoyed looking across the water at the canal houses all lit up and imagined a fantasy life where I would live in one of them with my family.
The G13 did not disappoint...was an amazing smoke and my notes just say "very strong high" and then trail off to nothing....
A nice end to another wonderful day in Amsterdam. Only a few more days left to report on, including my epic smoking session with Gapie and Bleak
...thanks for reading and more soon!
