Is it a computer, how does it register onto the boards and start a thread :?: Just wandering :)

What a long strange trip it is.

Just a computer programme that can basically sign up and post a thread, normally selling viagra, erection problem solutions, watches and handbags.

They must be getting clever these days to be adding an avatar as well to try and look genuine. Cant adding a verification upon signup (like copy whats in the image above or answer this question etc) feature solve the problem?. Not to sure how hard that would be to do on this place but a hell of a lot of sites have verification features during signup these days.

I've got all of the anti-spambot measures turned on. They're either getting very clever or they're using humans to sign up.

One nice feature of phpBB3 is that it's much easier to administer users. I can jump straight from a post to the relevant admin panel and delete the member and all of their posts. In phpBB2 I had to copy and paste the user's name into search and delete all of their posts one at a time and then paste the name in the admin panel to delete the user.

A small problem with this, though, is that if people have replied to the spam posts then the thread can look a bit odd after the spam has been pruned.

Before switching to phpBB3 I had it set up so that new members had to email me to ask to be activated. This was a pain for me but also meant that some people didn't realise they had to email and when I went on holiday huge queues could build up. It may be that I'll have to go back to that method.
