Coffeshops that play heavy metal/rock
Re: Coffeshops that play heavy metal/rock
De Kuil/cafe 420 has a sign on the front that says "classic rock and F.Z". But I haven't heard a lot of metal in there....
Re: Coffeshops that play heavy metal/rock
Thanks, I'll give it a whirl. I like older less heavy stuff too, a bit of Hendrix/Doors/Zeppelin is always welcome in the absence of the heavy stuff.
Re: Coffeshops that play heavy metal/rock
Then 420 is your place. Also give the Doors a go.

The heaviest music I've ever heard was in Central Coffeeshop, you may want to go to a smoker friendly bar, Excalibur is a good choice (if they still allow smoking?).

not heard metal in any coffeeshops.mainly marley, trance, hip hop (bleh) and eurocrap. 420 go as heavy as zep/sabbath.

Re: Coffeshops that play heavy metal/rock
I know the Get Down To It on the Leidseplein used to play some great rock/heavy metal a fews years back. They had an amazing selction of music spanning the genres, but there was no shortage of heavy stuff. The bar/budtender was always open to requests. The gear there has always been average imo, but I liked the size of it and the internet availablity. I belive it's changed hands a few times in recent history....

On NYE we heard so great neo metal music a the Doors Palace (System of a Down, Papa Roach, and I think some Korn), and the budtender at GreenPlace played a whole album of Dillinger Escape Plan (fucking horrible when high lol)

Dillinger Escape Plan?? Wooow
Awesome band but yeah, not so much when ruined...
I can't say I've ever heard any quality rock / metal in coffeeshops. Pity, it'd make a change from reggae and pop/dance radio channels.

Re: Coffeshops that play heavy metal/rock
Last time I was in Dam I found nowhere but De Kuil/cafe 420 playing good metal music (sorry but SOAD, Korn etc isn't good metal in my opinion) and that was old school stuff, Sabbath, Zepp etc. Found best bet was to keep one earphone in with Kyuss/Spiritual Beggars/Opeth on the ipod and one ear on the convo, perhaps when I'm back next week I'll have more luck, but I'll have ipod fully charged just incase.
Re: Coffeshops that play heavy metal/rock
Yeah SOAD and korn isn't really my cup of tea either, a bit of stoner rock would be peachy but I'll take what I can get.
Re: Coffeshops that play heavy metal/rock
Didn't de Kuil's front window get smashed? Did they re-etch it with the same cryptic message? That's cool.
Just wonderin'
chuck.

Give The Doors Coffeeshop a try (the one near the start of Haarlemmestraat), last time I went in (although I came with weed from another C.S) there were such a great atmosphere.... they were playin' " Morrison Hotel " and it was like we were back in the ol' days... a vibrant, mellow place

When I went into the Doors on my last trip they were playing LA woman, my favourite Doors song ever.
