Hello!

Hi, I'm CatPiano, 21 from the UK. I'm going to Amsterdam for the first time with 2 friends in June. It's going to be part of a big 'trip round Europe' thing to celebrate finishing uni and to grab at our last few weeks of freedom while we still can, before we have to start earning money somehow. Amsterdam is coming at the end of the tour, and we'll spend 3-4 nights there.

So, I'm a complete n00b when it comes to both Amsterdam and weed (kind of). I've had a couple of puffs on spliffs passed round at student parties, but I only felt high once, and every time I did it I've been drunk. So, yeh. I'm going to ask some questions and probably embarrass myself by revealing how little I know...

1. My main question is, would space cake/other edibles be suitable for someone with my relative lack of experience? Bear in mind I'm also petite and female, and I know that alcohol has a greater/quicker effect on me than say, my fat male housemate. Not sure if this would be the same with hash. I do know that eating it creates a stronger/longer high, I was wondering if it would be too strong for someone like me. I'd rather eat it, cos I'm asthmatic and smoking a joint makes breathing difficult for like a week afterwards :/

2. When you buy cannabis from a coffee shop, just on its own, do they give you rolling papers, or do people just generally have them? How often are bongs used instead? Are the bongs provided or is it a bring your own?

3. What would you recommend for a kind-of first timer? And where?

4. Anyone know of any decent (cheap) hostels in the red light district? Was thinking of staying in the greenhouse effect but it's a bit pricey.

Hope I didn't sound too naive/stupid whatever. I'm dead set on not making an idiot out of myself like (from the stories on here) a lot of the inexperienced kids do. I will NOT throw up in public...!

You may want to use the forum search function for more detailed info, or for 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc opinions, but here goes:1. My main question is, would space cake/other edibles be suitable for someone with my relative lack of experience? Bear in mind I'm also petite and female, and I know that alcohol has a greater/quicker effect on me than say, my fat male housemate. Not sure if this would be the same with hash. try eating a half and see what happens. I can eat them all day and all night, but I work on my tolerence  daily

2. When you buy cannabis from a coffee shop, just on its own, do they give you rolling papers, or do people just generally have them? How often are bongs used instead? Are the bongs provided or is it a bring your own?

Any coffeeshop I have ever visited had bongs for use so long as you bought your goods there. Most also have gratis rolling papers and carbs, and there are also many shops with a vaporizer, which may come in handy for your asthma. 420 and Amnesia are two that spring immediately to mind. That being said, I always are papers and a pipe, but that's just my boy scout background.

3. What would you recommend for a kind-of first timer? And where?
Tell the bud-tender about your smoking habits, likes and dislikes, and then follow his/her advice. Tell them you don't want anything too strong. Go slow, a hit or two at a time, have a sugar drink handy, you'll be fine.

4. Anyone know of any decent (cheap) hostels in the red light district? Was thinking of staying in the greenhouse effect but it's a bit pricey.

A lot of people like the Flying Pig but I never stayed there. On my 2nd trip I stayed at the Bulldog Hotel and Hostel and I absolutely love it so much, I doubt I will ever stay anywhere else. It has become a home away from home for me. The staff is terrific, nice clean rooms, lots of space for cannabis consumption, nice bar, breaky included. It's about 30E per night, but I find it very well worth it. Again, maybe a forum search is in order for 2nd opinions.

PEACE

First timers get my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

Have you ever considered a vaporiser, no smoke lots buzz. The problem with edibles is you never know how much active ingredient is involved. You could always try the FULLFAT AH yogurt with a quarter to a half gram of finely ground hash mixed in.

All shops have rolling papers available. Many have bongs or vapes for your use.
CatPiano wrote:3. What would you recommend for a kind-of first timer? And where?
Your best bet here is to trust your bud tender, They know their product and can advise you.

I've been out of the scramble for lodging race for over ten years now so I;m no help here.

What dates will you be in Amsterdam?
I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town and any Toke& Talks that are planned during your visit.

Enjoy

Wow thanks for all your help! Especially about the vapourizers, hadn't actually considered them but it's definitely something I'll try.

Thanks FlyByNite for the link. I think I'll be there from the 12th-15th June, but that's susceptable to change! It'll be around then anyhow.

Welcome and I love you name. If you like cats, you will love Amsterdam.

Don't eat a space cake for your first time, I cannot stress this enough  For real, it hits slowly and hard, can make a old smoker like me get paranoid.

Go to a nice shop and tell the budtender your experience and how you want to feel and they will sort you out.

I concur,...

And if your gona go for vapo hits, go small and slow. In usual circumstances i'd recommend a joint, 2-3 drags/puffs, then give it 5 minutes, if you don't feel anything, have more. Just make sure you give it those few minutes in between to be sure. I always feel the affects after 2 drags but it can take longer with some people. I reckon using the same small/steady method on vapo hits to cater for your asthma is the way to go.

Enjoy,.... n let us know how you got on. I'm taking a 1st timer with me this summer, cant wait to see him let his hair down.
