Spending Money

Post by Taylor »

Well I am a student and have limited spending monies avaliable. I was thinking how much does food/snacks e.c.t cost out there. Im heading over with approx 400 euros + for 5 full days. Breakfast is included with my hotel but one morning I would like to try a Barneys Breakfast!!

I just dont want to run out of money, of course I will want to see some attractions and sample some fine weed :)

Travel and Accomadation has already been paid for!

IMO if your funds are limited skip Barneys for breakfast. It'll cost you 10 - 15 euro not including a drink and it's okay at best. If you want to go somewhere smoker friendly for breakfast try La Grotte for half the price. I have seen people run out of money their last couple of days and end up sitting in the hotel.

Peace,

Oh I thought the Barneys Brekfast was a must. Im mistaken lol! I just found out my folks are donating me an extra 50 squid and Im sure if I can I will be able to muster up a hundred extra euros. Thanks for the advice on the brekfast, I probably would have been dissapointed.

If you have a breakfast at the hotel then eat that (If they do bread, ham and cheese then try and grab a bit extra for lunch), food isn't cheap in Amsterdam but you can get away with eating on a budget, frites are quite filling so for €2ish you can have a nice lunch and treat yourself to something like Burger Bar or Wok 2 Walk for about €8 each so that will bring your food budget down to about €10 a day, another thing to watch is buying drinks in coffeeshops, a couple of drinks can set you back €5 easy, give yourself a daily budget and stick to it.

Definitely eat at Pizza Rimini at Lange Leidsedwarsstraat 75. All the pizzas are about €5 so you can sit in a restaurant and have a pizza and drink for under €10. They are very good pizzas too, factor in the low cost and it makes them fantastic pizzas. It's always busy in there and especially popular with students. I think they have to have low prices because they are on the farside of the Leidseplein restaurant area. The website includes the menu:

I think I am near a store like that, Im at the Hotel Hortus a bit out of town. Prob means Im going to get the tram in simply because im lazy. Anyone know how much a 5 day or 4 day tram ticket is??

I wrote down the pizza place thanks for the tips.

I have been to the dam once before on a day visit and the fries were very very nice indeed. I am not much of a healthy eater but I'll just live off of them haha!!

If you like Mcdonals they got 1euro menu (but not weekends)
The great Wall of food (Febo)
But still AH is your best bet (like matty said)
remember few years ago they had these 1zilo of noodles for 2.5euros (that was my lunch and super that day wit 2 cans of pepesi) =3.25euro of food for the day :D also STAY AWAY from buying drinks at 2-3euro in these little shop around your hotel hostel...they ll sell you cans of drinks at stupid prices ...And if your like me and love PEPSI! youll have problems finding 4can pack around centrum for under 3euros .. Found a Dirk Van Den broek <<Marie Heinekenplein 25 Behing the Heini Museum //other side of the museum ;) (near CM and Katsu )

i have to agree with the rest...You need a minmum of 100e a day..If you want the breakfast and smoking experience try Popeyes or LeGrotte both on Haarlemmerstraat... I tried them all including Barneys (which was mediocre at best and way too expensive aroung 20e++). Also right across from DeKuil/420 theres an awesome little bakery that has great breakfast pastries. When I go back Im gonna buy most of my meals from Albert Heins as I thought the food in AMS mostly sucked...Two musts imo is the ribs at Cafe DeKlos and burgers from Burger Bar were great everything else was mediocre or worse...Have fun
