Depending on your budget, de kas: http://www.restaurantdekas.nl/ is pretty amazing. of course there is always bolhoed http://www.happycow.net/reviews.php?id=1004

most restaurants are no longer smoker friendly. you must step outside to smoke, or find a place with a terrace.

having a brother whos been a vegi since 1991 i have to disagree....atleast in my part of the country i rarely see a resturant w/o atleast 1 or 2 vegetarian items not including salads.
notice i said in Amsterdam. I have been a vegi since 1979 and have become very savvy on how to eat in a restaurant (by making clear requests after looking over the foods that are available in the kitchen) BUT in Amsterdam, there is always at least one vegetarian choice on the menu. At least at the descent restaurants. geez even the Supper Club serves a 5 course vegetarian choice. to me that's impressive.

For great vegan food I recommend De Bolhoed. Everyday they have a dish they call Vegan meal of the day and it is something new everyday. Always delicious, and it is a quite popular dish and they can sometimes run out of it. But if you don't come to late it is there to be enjoyed!

I have found Le Place to be the best place in Amsterdam if your vegetarian, great selection, fresh and great customer service.
Its a giant 3 story cafeteria, you can find many vegan and vegetarian options, many made right in front of you so no surprises.

It's just spambots picking up on words and making a post out of them, more or less.
