Has anyone tried Rosetta stone for learning anylanguage and or Dutch? I notice that English and Dutch must share a common root (Germanic?) as I can recognize a lot of Dutch words. How hard is it to learn Dutch?

I am a just over half way through the Dutch v3 of RS. While it has been beneficial for grammar and vocabulary, I would not rely on it to become fluent.
Byki Express offers a basic Dutch lesson software for free. I would definitely give that a try before I buy RS.

I used Rosetta Stone to learn basic Spanish. It is brilliant, and believe it or not it is easy. If you are one of those people who couldn't dream of learning a language and have a terrible memory this is perfect. I didn't realize I was learning the language until I did the end of unit test and aced it. You remember without trying!
Definitely a good program. But a bit expensive if you ask me.

So you're at the "Kunt u mijn koffertje voor mij dragen" of de " Een van deze honden heeft een rode trui" level I presume...
Aside from tutoring or being in country (using the language daily) RS is the way to go.... It's a great starting point..
met vriendelijke groet..

I really like the Michel Thomas Dutch Foundation and Advanced sets. You can find a torrent if you Google around.

the roseta stone is quiet good, you can download it from torrent sites. i like
http://web.me.com/schuffelen/Site/LearningDutch.html contains many audio for names, places, objects, etc and a straight forward beginners course. another thing is watching dutch tv and put subtitles with teletext (page 888), it helps a lot people like me

that can't translate correctly the sounds into (visual) words.
if you dont have dutch tv >
