Why do you want to live in NL compared to other European locations?
Well, Ireland is too... desolate, Spain and Italy are too hot, Belgium seems boring though northern France might work, I do like to eat. I've never been to the UK or Germany but I don't think I would like to live there. The Scandinavian countries might be interesting but I don't know much about them.

That being said I am a practical, utilitarian sort of person and from what I have seen The Netherlands seem to be a good fit.
Cool...was just checking if you thought about it. Lots of people seem to just move here for the wrong reasons.

As for cats, I brought two in from the US, its very possible. Will save the details until you are actually ready to do it, but you need to get them checked by a USDA approved vet, all their shots updated/verified and they need to be chipped.

Good luck. The DAFT treaty may be the best option for you. I would suggest talking to someone who has done it over a period of time.

There are jobs out there for sure

ICT sector has 9,000 vacancies
vacature

The Dutch ICT sector are about nine thousand vacancies. According to figures for the first quarter of 2011 from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). That's more than two thousand jobs in the last quarter of 2010. Partly because of the increase in demand for ICT workers, the total number of vacancies in the Dutch labor market to 135,000.

The openness of nine thousand jobs , the highest number in two years time. End of September 2009 there were six thousand vacancies and that has since been slowly increasing. End of 2010 there was a slight decrease for the first time, but in the first quarter of 2011 over corrected.
Demand growth

The CBS also set the number of vacancies per thousand jobs away. It scores the Dutch ICT market the highest of all sectors out there. Per thousand jobs were there after the first quarter of 2011 37 vacancies. This is significantly higher scores than the overall market average of seventeen vacancies. In September 2009, this figure for the ICT market was still 22, so despite the crisis, the average demand for ICT workers has increased.

^^^ P.I.C.N.I.C^^^

This is my IT jargon for the day.. If you don't know what it is then I doubt your skills as a weekend gamer. Let alone, a big time IT dick.... That cliche' sigh that exits whenever someone has a question... Did you ever see the Jimmy Fallon IT GUY skit? If not, it's worth a look, very accurate depiction....

Now back to moving to the Netherlands... Step one, Get a lawyer...

I've given a lot of thought to moving out of the USA and while I hate to move I think there are a lot of things that need to change and the next election cycle will say a lot about the future. Unfortunately I think it make require a fight and I am a lover not a fighter. I have visited a few places and read up on a lot more and I really do like the mind set of the Dutch people. The fact that MJ and other things are legal is just a bonus. Plus, I always liked riding bicycles ;-)

I am making the move this year, and am willing to answer any questions you might have. If you can afford a lawyer, get one (2000EUR for the whole thing). If not, you have two options: a) start your own business or b) get a Dutch employer to sponser you. Oh well the 3rd would be as a student.

For Me? The ease of logistics for distribution purposes..I actually like the weather. The people are generally welcoming. Despite popular belief the food is good.

The weather ????? We have a lot of rain in a year !!

What about Czech republike ? Czech was the richest country in Europe before the war and communists and is now devellopping the fastest from all East europe country`s..

I bought 2 houses there too... and..... By law you may smoke marihuana and you may grow 5 plants !!!
Also they have a awesome marihuana exhibition (cannafest)

I had there on my booth a bar with 3 vaporizers where everybody could smoke for free without any problem..
I love that country..

In holland btw, you have to pass a examen for the Dutch language.

I have a american girlfriend, but i will take her to holland through Czech.... in 2 weeks i have a licence for her to stay... in holland it cost minimum a half year and you have to fill in a thousand of forms

Bear in mind that the spouse of the DAFT applicant is not authorized to be employed. For both of you to work legally, you'll have to each apply for your own DAFT approval. That means you'll need a total of €9,000 business capital. The monthly income of ~€1,500, however, is per family. So that doesn't change.

It's quite doable. The lawyer that we met with this year did not discourage us from pursuing this at all.

Good Luck,
chuck.
