Marching Powder. It's a true story about a prison in Bolivia.

Also, Papillion.

The Jack Reacher Series By Lee Child... Excellent...

Or as a lighter alternative within the same genre...

The Alex Cross Series by James Patterson...

They Harry Bosch Novels By Michael Connelly...

The Lucas Davenport Series by John Sanford..

The three lower are basic "Eh..." But it still beats Criminal Minds or the like on the Tube...

Candy by Luke Davies For Drug/Romance..
Bad artists imitate, Great artists steal..

Like....
CRIME, ..., REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES, ...
for CRIME i would suggest either The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett or Farewell My Lovely by Raymond Chandler

for REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES i would recommend Touching the Void by Joe Simpson, his story of a mountain climb that ran into difficulties, an amazing tale

enjoy whatever you choose to read ...

"chillers2", from your list of likes when it comes to reading, i would highly recommend the series of detective novels set in "Aberdeen" by "Stuart Macbride". These are very good page turners, excellent plots, great characters that develop as the series of books grow and are very realistic when it comes to the gruesome content of the storyline.
I've given these to friends to read and NEVER had anything else but rave reviews, even found it got to the stage there was a chain of people passing the book on to the next person once they had finished one and then had to wait in line for their next fix.!!!
"Rebus" up north.  8) 8)

"cisco", have you read any of "Stuart Macbride"? If you or any other ACDers like the "Rebus" style you'll love these!!
His first novel was "Cold Granite". I would suggest you read these books in order to get the best of the superb character building of the main protagonists. Wonderful. 8) 8) 8) 8)

I actually meant to recommend him in the "Whats everyone reading" thread but i kept forgetting!!!!
