Re: The end of Coffeeshop tourists
These posts get hyped up quickly. Fact of the matter is, they have been trying to implement this for almost a decade and I doubt it will ever happen. This is a twisted version of what actually was decided. Yes they want cities to implement the resident only wietpass but as mentioned in another topic this will be decided on a city by city basis. Everyone calm down. If the wave starts in the south and starts gaining momentum then I'll start getting concerned. But even then there's More money for The City of Amsterdam with tourists allowed to purchase small amounts of cannabis than the alternative so I just can't fathom it happening. What you have are misinterpretations of the ideas of right wing xenophobes who are grasping at straws...

It's happening now, believe it or not. It's one of the top stories here in Germany, probably all of Europe.USBONGLORD wrote:that story is 5 years old...wipe my ass with the chicago tribune...it aint happened then it aint happening now
I'm now a permanent EU resident, so it won't be difficult for me to make the move from Germany to The Netherlands if I was so inclined, which I'm not any longer.
IMO, those that are in good standing with C/S peeps, especially the owners, won't have much of a problem scoring. I know I won't have any problems.
Nothing happy about banning tourists...

Tourists Face Weed Ban In Dutch Coffee Shops
Comments
3:39am UK, Saturday May 28, 2011
Tourists are to be banned from buying cannabis in Dutch "coffee shops", marking an end to the country's liberal stance on soft drugs.

The government also plans to restrict natives from buying the drug by the end of the year.
Backed by the far-right party of anti-immigrant politician Geert Wilders, the coalition government that came into power last year announced plans to curb drug tourism as part of a nationwide programme to promote health and fight crime.
"In order to tackle the nuisance and criminality associated with coffee shops and drug trafficking, the open-door policy of coffee shops will end," the Dutch health and justice ministers wrote in a letter to the country's parliament.

Under the new rules, only Dutch residents will be able to sign up as members of cannabis shops.
Dutch customers will have to sign up for at least a year's membership and each shop would be expected to have only up to 1,500 members, a justice ministry spokesman said.
The policy will roll out in the southern provinces of Limburg, Noord Brabant and Zeeland by the end of the year and the rest of the country next year, the spokesman said.
Amsterdam, home to about 220 coffee shops, is already in the process of closing some in its red light district.
Some officials have resisted the measures, saying they will push the soft drug trade underground.
Some Dutch border towns including Maastricht and Terneuzen have already restricted the sale of marijuana to tourists.

That's a terrible news...
Never seen the situation becoming so serious.
I hope Job Cohen will talk soon about the measures he want to take as municipality.
It's their land and acting in different ways would be a backfire. We need an intermediary, and the only one I see it's the local antipro movement plus the lots of citizens, dutch born or not, wich lives, works there for and because the weed market or simply like it (and maybe some squatters too?).
They and us need to stand but fucking quickly and vigorously or we well soon dream of amsterdam toking in thailand or cambodia, like half of the '70 hippies after the Winter of love

It will be difficult to think about a sort kind of fight, if the locals will not take the head of the march.Mr Big wrote:We gonna have to fight for this!

Well this sucks... I already got my plane tix and hotel for September
Gonna be no fun, no matter the connects you got after the ban you get caught smoking in AMS you get arrested it's the same or worse for you as in the U.S., no reason to go now, may as well go to cali or stay home so freaking sad.
Goodbye ACD, you were a great help and provided me with many great hours of reading and learning, I appreciate all the help I have received from all of you, a great site for a harmless herb...

Re: The end of Coffeeshop tourists
I know this Is the Coffeeshop Directory afterall but the above is the EXACT reason why the local Dutch are even talking about this. Amsterdam is a state of mind not just a place to get high. You can get high anywhere. But then again the Herb situation here in Cali is already like having a Wietpass and I'll be a resident by December so either way I'm good.

Re: The end of Coffeeshop tourists
Folks, I think this is for real.
I've made almost 10 trips to AMS and if I make it out there later this summer, it very well may be my last.
When I go, I stay for several days and spend a good amount of money not only on weed, but lodging, food, museums, attractions, bikes, etc. Collectively, this is gonna really hurt the Amsterdam economy.
I know when I go, Im very mindful and respectful for the locals and certainly cause no trouble or create scenes. I dont litter, and observe all local customs as best as possible. To me, it seems like (and I hate to blame anyone) the drunk British tourists who come for these stag parties have given tourists a bad name. One article mentioned that a woman carrying her babay was asked where the closest coffeeshop is. Poor judgment it would seem on this tourist part. No common sense. Also, the Dutch feel they come and piss all over the city and leave.
Anyway, it may be true they've been trying to do away with weed tourists for a while, including scaling down the red light windows, but I think this latest ruling is the harshest and most pointed Ive ever heard. They will start in the south where tourists are evidently already banned and Amsterdam will most likely be a ghost town come next year. I hope its not true, or maybe just temporary, but we'll see.

Your daft if you think Amsterdam became famous cause it's a state of mind lmao. It became famous cause you CAN SMOKE WEED legally and buy it from shops, thats where the state of mind is..
The exact reason the dutch are doing this is cause of all the crime surrounding the distribution not cause people are coming there just to smoke, it's the morons whiting out in the shops and streets and running around acting like idiots!
Think about the subject and get a a grasp on it before spouting your mouth.
