Hey guys,
I've been lurking on the boards for quite a while now and i'd love some advice, i'm sure some of you have been/are in the same boat.

I moved away from Scotland after working a shit job, I'm currently in Madrid and my savings are getting quite low. I've decided I want to make one last stab at it before I have to move home, and i've been wanting to move to Holland since i was 18.

I have been on a few websites looking for a cheap(ish) flatshare and I want to just move there, get my tax number and hit every bar/coffeshop/store with my CV.

Is it possible and feesable to do this? I have over a grand, which i know isn t much at all for a trip to amsterdam usually, but i have become adapt at frugle living, spending hardly anything after my rent and bills are paid. Do you guys think it is possible to get a job pretty quick to pay the rent if i can get a place, or try to camp cheaply while trying to find a place/job?

Any advice would be appreciated, even if there might be a member who has a spare room, or a friend who has a place, etc.

I'm currently trying to find cheap short term accommodation there without flat sharing. It's very difficult. I'm self employed, work online, and am looking to live between april-october each year.

One thing I can help you with is ultra cheap camping & food living. I've been spending long breaks in Amsterdam while looking into accommodation options, and integrating into the new environment.

I've been camping at Camping Zeeburg which is currently 9.50 euros a day, but rises up to 11.50 in the high season. The longest you can stay is 3 weeks, but you can leave and return shortly for a fresh 3 weeks stay.

For food and drink, I've been living on the basic 'diet' of a loaf of bread (0.50 euros), 6 pack of apple juice (0.89), 10 slices of ham (0.59), and a 5 pack of chocolate hazelnut waffles (0.99) per day. All are available at Albert Heijn supermarkets. You could be even cheaper and go to ALDI at Nieuwe Weteringstraat for food and drink.
