A similar story broke in the UK with Sting, Dame Judy Dench, ex MP's and ex Police chiefs asking UK gov to reassess current drug policy, looking for regulation and decriminalisation.

Thanks Rich, and AmsterdamnesiA for the links.
Why is it that people when in power are so opposed, and when they are out, they are in favor? Hypocrisy at its finest. For these flip-floppers, I say GO FUCK YOURSELVES because you are nothing but cowards. I don't give a fuck who jumps on these bandwagons, they are meaningless because of the flagrant hypocrisy possessed by some.
Basically, I could care less who are on these panels, they are only doing it to further their own 15 minutes of fame (thanks Andy Warhol).
How many people does it take to prove the failure of the war on cannabis? ONE!
Nothing happy about hypocrites extending their 15 minutes...

Its not the war on cannabis that has failed, its the entire war on drugs. Legalize, tax and regulate. All of it....

Sign the petition that will be handed to world leaders in the coming days.

This is a major push. As someone who believes this prohibition is the most harmful and least fact based social policy of our generation, I am very happy about this.

Here is a link to the AP story on NPR's website, I only heard the tail end of the report which was talking about US having to consider the non-violent offenders in prison for rock cocaine possession has to be the same as powder possession.

This sort of world movement is a major turning point for drug users globally. It seems to be gaining a lot of momentum and the more people that get behind this and not just dismiss it as just another report on drugs that will get sidelined then it could actually go somewhere. Stand up for the right to use one of the most beneficial plants on this earth and any other substance you so choose.
I recommend signing the petition that has been posted here also. We all need to get behind this and hopefully change the totally wrong criminalization of people who use substances. Drugs don't ruin lives nearly as much as criminal records and jail time. Not to mention the organized crime that is fuelled by the drug trade. They make the bad people rich and criminalize the innocent user.
Here is a link to the Global Commissions Report:

I'm not sure I'd like drugs to be legalised in my country. I'm not sure what it's really like in UK and the Netherlands, but the way I see it, drugs are very expensive here as it, and this is turning people away anyway. It costs $300 (at least) for a gram of good coke. That's probably $200 Euro? It turns me off buying it, and I normally just opt for some weed (which is also very expensive here). Also, deaths from heroin have dropped dramatically since the 90s, and I see that as a sign that we have a strong hold on the drug war. The price of coke also dictates this. I know it has a lot to do with distance and quantity, but the ease to get it into the country must also have a lot to do with it.
So I'm not really for this. But I don't bundle marijuana with hard drugs anyway. I even put it below alcohol.

like I already said, people will take drugs, if illegal, whatever price......so, we can keep on putting people into jail for it or we can start to make it right

exactly - human's have always looked at ways to get intoxicated, a product of needing something to occupy the over sized brain we've developed
