Hi folks,
I'm off to Amsterdam on Monday and I have just received an email from the people I'm renting my apartment from saying i have to collect my key at the office instead of at the apartment, trouble is the office is miles away from where i am staying so it looks like I'm gunna have to get the tram, Now i have always been daunted by the trams and therefore walked everywhere, could someone please explain to me the best tram procedure to use and how much it costs and where i have to buy the tickets/pass from,
talk about stress me out just before I'm due to go

Don't get stressed, go to tram building outside central station, they'll have a map with different zones, and will help you choose the right ticket, I think it's gvb building up the steps, remember and get your ticket out machine and watch the screen for your number to come up.
Like I say don't stress. I've been there before and you'll be grand. The only thing I stressed about was wondering why folk that came in after me were seen first.. Just remember to take the ticket from the machine

Where is the office? Put up the address and I can tell you what to do.

YOu can buy a ticket on the tram which is fine if you just want to go to the office and back. cheers.

how much is a ticket approx and do you ask for a return ticket or buy single each way and can you pay cash and do you need to tell the driver the name of the stop you need?

Ticket prices depend on how many zones you're travelling. Just work out the zones and ask for a ticket appropriately. The ticket is valid for an hour, so it'll get you there and back. The name of each stop is announced as the tram approaches it. It also shows up on a sign. Once on the tram it's much like any metro/underground system.

It might be worth getting a chipkaart from the GVB office though cos once you've done it once you're flying. The tram's also excellent for urban surfing when your off your tits. Inside the carriage obviously.

Its easy, you need to take the #9 towards Diemen from Central Station. Get off on stop called Hogeweg. Walk back the direction the tram came to 33.

If you can let the driver know what stop you want, they dont have a problem giving you a heads up.

again guy thanks for all your ace replies, i feel much more confident about this unexpected journey and @trance what does it matter about italics , he could write in hieroglyphics for all it matters as long as you can understand it
