In the pubs.cafes, liquor is 6 - 8 euro. You can try some of the happy hours around town, mostly in the RLD. Also you could buy a bottle from Gall & Gall behind the Royal Palace and keep it in your room.

Beer is a lot cheaper, less than a euro each at Albert Heijn.

From experience most of the irish bars are pricey! ie 5.20 for a pint of amstel,& whatever you do DONT go to the "bevaria" bar on damstraat as a groot will cost you a horrific 7 euro!! youve been warned .

In April the woman who rented us our apartment recomended we go to supermarket Jumbo as she said it was cheaper than Albert Heijn, seemed good to me and we bought alot of beer.

To be honest, beer wasn't anywhere near as expensive in the Dam as I thought it would be (especially compared to other european cities like Barcelona or Rome)

at the dam square end of warmoerstraat, is the st christopher's hostel.

the bar area is really pretty good and big, and definatly full of backpackers/stoners/party people.

whilst i cant remember the exact prices, they had fantastic happy hour deals. definatly makes sense to get a couple in there and then head back into the thick of it up the other end of warmoerstraat.
