California Medical Marijuana (How to?)

Am currently visiting in Los Angeles. Ads for doctor's prescription' marijuana letters can be found in the L.A. Weekly, a free business publication/calendar. It will cost $35 to $45 for the doctor's visit. Bring the ad to confirm the price. But after receiving the doctor's 'letter' you have to show a California ID card or California driver's license proving that you are a California resident. That's the way the law is written, the medical marijuana vendors will tell you. The physicians don't care if you're a California resident btw. I suspect that if one tried hard to convince them that they're Californian, one may be able to find a 'weed' pharmacy willing to fill your prescription. Quality is good and prices seem awful close to Amsterdam's. If you're used to Amsterdam coffeeshops some medical marijuana pharmacies will creep you out, as it did me. One place had a 'security' person with a handgun. Like going to an inner city pawn shop they buzz you in. If there are too many customers, they may ask you to sit and wait. Much more preferable than the old friend of a friend method.

Also, they want take them from just anyone, hence maybe why they're offered so low in the ads. If you're traveling out that way I wouldn't rely on MMJ if you want to smoke.

Thank you for the reply. Finding the 00.1% shouldn't be difficult. Someone has done it on the second try. Hmm, statistically that makes it 50%. If one wants to smoke, one shouldn't rely on anything or anyone until the product is in one's hands. Such is life. In short, L.A. doctor's 'recommendation=$35-45.00 CA ID=$26.00 (DMV price). Great idea IMO this is one of the reasons the dispensaries keep getting raided, fraud.

Thanks for the tip. Do you have any links to news reports on dispensaries getting raided? That should be good information to know and share. One can avoid (or support:) the said dispensary. The dispensaries are a recent phenomenom so I'm very curious which ones, if any, have been raided.

if your determined to beat the system then the safest way is to just find a friend to buy it for you. otherwise your at risk of getting not only yourself but the system in trouble. la is the worst city for mmj though..those prices . and balou is right in most mmj states including mine the shops will want a copy of your california/washington, oregon, colorado, etc etc id the first visit before they even let you in the door. cant tell you how many times im sitting in the waiting room and people coming in w/o id or documentation...and they all get booted. boners right mmj is not a recent phenom in california or even the region..its been around since 1996-1998 in this part of the country and the dispenseries have been around since atleast 2004.

Only two I've been to have been around eleven and five months according to their staff.

Thanks for the sound guidance. I was desperate and just wanted to score. Thinking the MD rx was sufficient to allow me to fill a prescription, you can imagine my disappointment when dispensary staff told me that 'out-of-state' driver's license will not allow me to make the purchase. They need CA ID, even a CA library card. Didn't have one of those either. BTW I've been done trying to beat the system. We let CPA's do that nowadays.
Question... Will a CA rx allow purchase in other states w/ MMJ? Do you have to be a resident of that state like CA law? Which other states have the friendliest and most dispensaries? Tried like crazy to score in Key West FL summer 2010. Failed.

I'm in the UK we dont have dispensaries I'm just a student of all things cannabis.

So dispensaries in Oregon or Vancouver will allow one to fill a Rx (recommendation) from California? Is that Vancouver, Canada? The availability of cannabis influences my travel plans more than it should. I haven't lived in the USA for a while now. And gone are the days when travelling on airplanes with stuff. Jeez, I've got a lot of surfing to do!

Here is the story on the Vancouver dispensary. They will honor a med permit from anywhere.
If we had known this beforehand, Oregon does not require residency for said med permit.
We could have gotten one on the way through and used it in Vancouver.

We didn't and made street buys just like all other non med folks.
Easy enough to do and fairly secure.

good to know. i need to get to vancouver asap for some budderking budder. had heard rumors they took out of town cards but assumed not out of country. i also need to get the pics up from my last west coast rv trip.
