Anyone ever do a house exchange for a vacation ?
We are considering it.
Seems alot of folks on the international house exchange forums are looikng to come out to the west coast.
Any stories to share, good or bad.
Would seem odd someone living in our new place, but we have insurance and i'd only exchange with someone that seemed like an equal trade and that would not fuck up my home

We have not done a home exchange yet but are looking in to it, seems like teachers do a lot of home exchanges in the summer.

I have always wanted to be in a position to do this... this is a great thread... maybe peeps will hook up as friends and this could work out for a some..
personally, something I would have a hard time with as I rent for now and forever... but I think this is such a great idea..

I've done it with friends successfully several times. I've always been too nervous to do it with someone I didn't know.
But, I don't have much attachment to my place, as it's a rental and we're leaving in 6 months. Anyone want to swap for a place in Zurich, Switzerland? We're only 1-2 hours by train to several ski resorts, and Zurich has a world-class opera.

It probably depends on your lease, but if you aren't taking money, how are they not just "guests" staying for a week while you're away?

Slight tangent, but vaguely related at least... has anyone used couch surfing?

I've not tried it myself, but a few friends have, might be worth checking out.

Don't blame you, Winnie. Amsterdam seems to be going to shit lately. I wouldn't want to live there, then again I didn't even in it's best days.
Good luck with Switzerland.
