trad ... i have a question - is the term "asphalt shingle" still in use ???
back in the early 70s i spent a hippie summer in maine usa re-roofing a couple of barns ... we used asphalt shingles which came in packs, and climbing the ladder the full height of the barn with a pack of asphalt shingles draped over one shoulder (they were slightly bendy) was a difficult few minutes and used to scare me something wicked each time
but you got a great view once you were on the top and great satisfaction when we would finish a roof
the best part was at the end of every day, we would drive in the pickup to the local general store and head for the cooler and get a number of bottles of nice cold beer, then hang around the back of the pickup drinking and chatting before heading home for some well-earned dinner
it was a great summer and your photos took me back there ... thanks for this thread of yours, it's very enjoyable to see people working hard and then playing hard

I also spent some of my younger years as a roofer, you do get different perspective up there, also did some chimney sweeping.
