Best Shoarma restaurant

In another life I spent three hot years living in the Middle East and picked up a taste for the local food. I have eaten shoarma in Amsterdam and found the quality to be a bit hit & miss, although way better than my local Kebab shop. The best I have tried is probably Babba's near Rembrandtsplein, anyone know of anywhere else they would recommend? Cheers

Only had shoarma from Ben Cohen, at Rozengracht and Marnixstraat. Open late, too.

Supposed to be some of the best in town.

+1 on the Ben Cohen recommendation.
Has a good reputation as Amsterdam's premier Shoarma takeaway (you can eat in too). I don't know it if worth making your way over there if you're on the other side of town but the shoarma schotel (shoarma meat, salad, pita, frites & a drink) makes a great and relatively cheap meal.

I remember having some good shoarma at a place on Overtoom near the nacht winkel (but this has been several years, so, I can't vouch for it currently.)

That is very true!!
However the proper Shoarma or Shawarma is Lebanese, it is marinated beef meat, usually more expensive than a simple Doner. The Doner kebab is turkish and said to be veal meat (which I doubt it actually is in most of Dam's joints...veal meat being one of the most expensive ones and the german Doner meat wholesalers retail a kg at around 2 EUR...  ).Gyros is the Greek pendant, and it is pork meat. All of them are finger licking if done properly.

shawarma is also israeli (arabs call it shoarma), we don't... so it really depends on where the person's from as to what type of meat you're getting...

pretty sure ours is lamb and/or turkey.

and we don't fuck with the low quality meat... its a jewish thing :-)

I should try that one next time i go, theres also a very good one on the old church square (close to the warmoesstraat) theres about 4 seats inside the shop and 2 tables outside each with 4 seats i dont know the opening times and last time it was 4.50 for a regular kebab or durum, tasty meat

You're right Dconstrukt!
anyway this region has seen loads of movement and all cultures have influenced one over another, food included!!Talk about Homos, falafel,Tabbole, motabale, etc....

I had a lebanese Shoarma yesterday in Geneva. It was lambs meat and it was godlike.8 CHF, around 6.5 EUR, pricey (what is not in Geneva???) but worth every Franc lol !!!

I found an AMAZING place right by Kashmir Lounge on Kinkerstraat called "Donnerland." Not sure I've ever had one this good, really. Also not sure that Donner and Shoarma/Shwarma are strictly the same thing, although the differences must be subtle at best. I thought Donner was basically the Turkish version, as realized by Turkish immigrants living in Europe. I always made the analogy to early Chinese immigrants creating "Chop Suey" in the United States-similar to traditional chinese food on the surface, but made with local ingredients and therefore different.
Sorry, have a side of tangent with your Donner...
Anyway, good place for anyone who's in the area!
