A nice report quiky, I'm a fan of the fietspads myself. Looks like you've done a bit of the area's I've cycled, did you visit the Kroller Meuler museum when you were in the Hoge veluuw park?
Me and the Mrs. have been doing a few miles on the Noordzeerout this week and it's been wonderful, good Amnesia haze from Purple in Vlissingen, just the job for a pair of oldies .

Reading this makes me want to start bike riding again. My rather portly physique curses you.

One question, how do you arrange the logistics of the bike itself? Are you local enough that you can easily bring it with you? Do you rent it? If you rent, how do you get it back to the rental place?

Interested in your views on the Purple Vlissingen - feel some more archive resarch needed.

I am unfamiliar with the parliamentary (?) system. It strikes me as odd that a party would/could join a coalition, only to be omitted from the government. Yet Wilders *is* able to form policy, as Wietpas is policy. Hmph.

spidergawd: When I reached Knooppunt #86 in Otterlo, I gave the Kröller-Müller some thought, but opted to keep moving towards Deventer. (During my trip, rain always looked like it was on the horizon.) With a hotel stay Otterlo, wandering the Kröller-Müller Museum in a marijuana-induced fog would be a grand idea :)

SGawain235: Excellent question. I rented a seven-speed at Bike City (you can make reservations online), located near Paradox. I rented it with panniers and stuck all my stuff in them. I picked up these items along the way, but be sure to bring along a pump, spare inner tube, patch kit and adjustable wrench. (The Dutch use something called a 28" rim on a lot of their bikes, FYI.)

It is also important to point out that you can bring your bike along with you on the trains -- I did so frequently to make it to my hotels before midnight ... When going by train, you need to buy a ticket for yourself *and* a special ticket for your bike, and you need to use the train doors marked with a bicycle symbol. During July and August you can portage your bike on the train freely; during the rest of the year you're supposed to avoid putting a bike on a train during rush hour.

SGawain235: Being able to bring bikes on the train is good for another reason, as well: rain. If you make hotel reservations in towns on train lines, and ride your bike on paths fairly close to train lines, you essentially take Mother Nature out of the equation. When you happen to run into a rainy day (and you will), you just put your ass/bike on the train and get to the next town without drowning.

Thanks for sharing all the bike tips Quicky. I haven't ridden a bike since I move to Europe a few years ago, and now I'm wondering if it'll be worth getting back to it before we take our cross-netherlands trek next summer. I read your report and feel all inspired, then I just looked out my window at the steep hill outside my window and think that pushing a bike everywhere really won't be all that helpful.

Wappa (New Balance, Zwolle, €6/0.5g?) – Wappa is a Paradise Seeds’ strain, so I thought I’d give it a try.

This one purrs. It’s got a body stone – in my case, a massage to the top of the front of the head and a tingling in the shoulders and arms. Waves of warmth pass through. The brain’s functioning well enough to tell me to me I want to go downstairs to use the hotel’s computer.

I've taken care of my Internet needs and head out for a walk in the cold dusk air. The rain has finally subsided, and I can see the pinks of the sun as it hits the Amstelveen tree line. Lovely.
