Priorities please,
Toke & Talk. Toke then talk, plenty of time for talk once you get the toking going.
Enjoy

Dutch is the primay language of the country, and while you will be fine without (as a tourist) it, its will help you immensely to be able to say hello, good-bye, thank you, and please.
How about calling English the primary "fall back" language?
For most foreign speaking folks a smidgen of English can go a long way.
Learn three words in the local language

That may line up nicely with my trip. I see on your profile you like Blues. Any good clubs I should check out? I may pick a place to stay based more on music than a ton of coffee shops.

Check out the Bourbon Street Near Leidseplien.

And also the Last Waterhole just off Leidseplien
http://www.waterhole.nl/ - They did jam sessions early on a monday evening (Don't know if they still do 'em, but some of the musicians were just mind blowing)
I remember - years ago - seeing a band called Rubber there - they were a coverband, and they put on a really amazing show - excellent fun and they did a really good cover of Radar Love! - if you get a chance to see 'em check 'em out.

Just checked their site... they're playing the Waterhole on the 9th Sept.

Yeah, they're in the Leidseplien area - which is OK to stay in - it's about 15 minutes walk or a short tram ride from the centre and the RLD - I've never stayed there but check out the Rookies
http://www.rookies.nl they have a hotel and a decent coffee shop.
If you have more cash to flash, the American Hotel is there too.

I've stayed at the Jupiter Hotel near there - small but clean.
