Barcelona to Amsterdam - Bargain airline vs "Legit?"

Post by Keysertx »

Hey guys. As I mentioned in the hotel section, my wife and I are taking our first trip to Amsterdam in October. We will be flying from Barcelona. I've read a lot of horror stories about Ryanair, Iberia and other "bargain" airlines. People talk about multiple crazy, hidden fees, crappy planes, long delays, etc. I'm just wondering if anyone here might have some helpful advice on what we should do.

Is it worth flying on one of these cheapo airlines or should we bite the bullet and pay a full fare on a larger, well-known airline like KLM, Swiss Air, etc.? Any opinions or first-hand advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The only downside to a low cost carrier are the fees. The major thing you can get charged for is baggage, so make sure you read the websites carefully. You only have a few options from Barcelona anyway; Arkefly, EasyJet, Transavia, Vueling and KLM. Contrary to what you may have heard, LCC's usually have some of the newest birds in the sky. With you flying such a short flight, I would go for the cheapest. It's not like you're flying across the globe and they have one flight a week.

Peace

you gotta play with the days.

some days a flight costs 40euros , while the next day the same flight is 100euros.

If you manage to get a cheap flight , DO IT !
Put your valuable stuff in handluggage , and dont bring too much clothing.

Book a hotel or Find a hotel while your amsterdam

Thanks for the replies so far guys. Are any of the bargain airlines less terrible than the others? =) Or are they pretty much the same so we should just grab the cheapest one?

What dates will you be in Amsterdam?
I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.
You can see who else may be in town and any Toke & Talks that are planned.

Never had a problem with EasyJet or Ryanair... Like others said, watch for baggage charges(usually about £30), and beware that they can be quite strict regarding the "Carry-On" regulations(weight & size/shape of bag)!

As far as booking is concerned, have you tried using Travel Republic?

Thanks. I checked and it looks like Travel Republic doesn't have anything flying out of Barcelona. Appreciate it though.

They do flights, but they don't have anything departing from Barcelona.

Seems to be a lot of decent prices on edreams, before service charges though. If you make it, myself and the young fella who posted above this will be in town then. Planning a boat trip if you fancy it?
