My holiday Egypt July 2011

Post by Sue Narmy »

This is my 2nd holiday to Egypt. This time I went to Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh

I'm not gonna go in to detail, just a few pics and a brief description

Hotel Mecure Le Spinx - Cairo

Main pyramid. I wasn't expecting it to be that big

Children working in a carpet factory. The parents of these kids can't afford education so they got some places where kids work to make carpets during the day which pays for them to go night school in the factory.

KFC - Naama Bay. The KFC is A LOT better than the KFC in the UK

Sorry thats all the pics I'm upping due to taking forever to re size them.

It was 40°C every day, it was far too hot going deep down in to the tombs.

Yes the sphinx is quite big but I was expecting it to be a lot bigger.
2 years ago I went on the Nile cruise and we visited Abu Simbel temples. Seriously that that is spectacular.

People say you should visit the pyramids before seeing the Abu Simbel temples as the pyramids are a bit of a let down. I now wish I saw the pyramids 1st.

Make sure you don't drink from the taps in the hotel room

Take anti bacterial hand jel and use it much as possible

Drink Sprite or 7up as they are good for stomach upsets

If you go out of your hotel you will get hassled by the shop keepers. If you don't want to go into their shop just say 'no' and keep walking
If you go into a shop and you see something you like make sure you barter with them

Try and give shopkeepers the right money as sometimes they will say they don't have any change

When I went Egypt 1.00 EGP (Egyptian Pound) was 0.12 GBP (Great British Pound)

If you're from the UK the easiest way to roughly calculate the money is take a '0' off. So 100 EGP would roughly be 10 GBP. 50 EGP = 5 GBP. 10 EGP - 1 GBP etc etc

Tip the staff, you will get better service. I was tipping the cleaners 10 or 20 EGP - 1 or 2 GBP every other day and they were giving me 3 big bottles of water extra in my room daily.

Watch out for the Russians. People say that the Germans are rude and arrogant and how they take up all the sunbeds by putting their towels on the sunbeds early in the morning... Trust me the Russians are 10x worse.

We didn't see any scorpions. You might see a few small lizards and millions of mosquitoes

Thankyou for that Snow White....I have heard that the Russians are very rude to the hotel staff, just clicking their fingers at them and not saying please or thankyou. is this true? and are there a lot of russions on average? and yeah we are from England. Cos our pounds are worth a lot of E.pounds does this mean stuff is cheep for us to buy? I am really looking forward to it, it is my 1st proper holiday somewhere warm in 16 years  lizards are ace love em.

There are far more Russians than English. Yes they click their fingers at the hotel staff, they queue jump at meal times, they pile up their food and then don't eat it.
They ignore the signs which say no swimwear to be worn in restaurants, so when other people sit down the chairs are usually wet.

Egyptains love English people as we have manners.

People say Egypt is cheap but it's not. Outside the hotel food and drink is the same price as in the UK

The thing is we pay tourist prices, we done a few tours and we got told the price we paid would of been what a Egyptian hotel worker would of earned in a year.
