BEST (CHEAPEST) WAY TO HAARLEM TO AND AROUND AMSTERDAM

I am going to be staying in Haarlem so I need to know what the best (cheapest) way between cities and once in them. I have been to Amsterdam earlier this year, but never to Haarlem. We used the chipcard last time, however I am not sure if you can use it to get to Haarlem. It did not look like it from the website. Thanks for any help you can give me.

To and from Haarlem your best bet is the train. 7,20euro round trip.

Haarlem has no trams so bus or bike or walk.

If you will just be in Centrum, walking works well there also.

Thanks FBN. You confirmed what I suspected from the limited research I did before posting this. We will have to buy a chipcard on those days we come to Amsterdam and go beyond the Centrum. We want to sample those coffee shops we missed last time when we stayed in the Museum Quarter like Media , etc. and go back to Da Graal and Katsu. This is going to be a hash smoking trip since we do not get it here in the midwest/south US.

Don't forget there are several nice coffeeshops in Haarlem where you're staying. You don't have to go to Amsterdam, and you might be surprised at the high quality and lower prices of gear in Haarlem. Coffeeshops Birdy, Teehuis and the Willie Wortel's shops (indica, sativa and sensimillia) come to mind. Don't pass up checking out the local scene where you're staying!

You have to buy the chip card and then load it with the minimum amount of euros to use the train, might be cheaper to just buy tickets for the train. you can buy a 1-7 day tourist card for Amsterdam GVB tram, metro, and bus. Haarlem is a great city.

Cheapest way around Bicycle Harlem is more or less 20km :O about 1hours each way
