Bus 197 (Schiphol to Leidseplein)

Post by Couch »

Just want to confirm, I can take bus 197 from Schiphol to Leidseplein, right?

I see '197' listed on the GVB map, but when I try to look at the timetable by line, the 197 line is not listed.

The Leidseplein stop (or actually one stop north on Marnix Straat) is practically at the front door of where I'm staying, so this would be perfect for avoiding the crowds at CS, and cheaper too (4 euro per person on the bus I believe).

I assume the bus runs in the other direction (back to the airport) as well? Same bus number and all?

Yes you can get it there and back, nice easy trip to the Marnixstraat bus station, it is 4 Euros. The reason you cannot find it on GVB site is that it is run by Connexions(sp?).

Nice find, couch.

From the Connexxion site...

Airport Buses: Connexxion runs the useful "Schiphol Sternet" service from Schiphol airport to the centre of Amsterdam. Bus 197 departs from Schiphol Plaza (just outside the arrivals area) and goes to Marnixstraat includiing stops at Leidseplein and Museumplein - it does NOT go to Central station. The 197 departs every 15 minutes, a single costs €4 and the journey takes about 30 minutes. There is also the N97 Niteliner service running hourly all night between Marnixstraat and Schiphol Plaza.

The bus is great if that is your destination. I take it to the airport all the time. Its goes through the parking lots on the way there and back.

Only thing I would suggest, is that if you are taking to pick up a plane during rush hour, give yourself some extra time as it does travel (in Amsterdam) on the main roads.

Edit: I think it runs all night, but you may have to change.

It's the N97 at night. Runs once per hour and no changes necessary.

Peace

Well, MY travel plans just changed. Staying in H1, this is a hot set up. It's about the same walking distance as from tram 17/Elandsgracht, without having to change transport.

When you get off at Elandsgracht, look directly opposite over the canal... There's a fab ukulele store

I was wondering if it went past Leidseplein up Marnixstraat, or if I'd have to get off at Leidseplein and walk, but from what Ohm says it must continue up that way. Perfect! Looking forward to popping into the Uke shop for a look around and to say hi too!

Bus 197 worked great. With my anonymous ov-chipkaart, it was a little over €2 instead of €4. A little pokey, but a nice way to get to apt H1.

Yep, worked great coming from the airport. 4E per person when paying cash. About 30-40 minutes ride, and it dropped me off across the street from my apartment. I'm a little concerned since I don't see the buses running in the opposite direction (i.e. back to the airport), but I do see them coming from the airport all day long. Anyone know where to catch it in the opposite direction?

Get your outgoing bus at the same Marnixstraat depot it dropped you off at.

I watched the red Sternet bus come and go, at all hours, from the apartment.

You'll be fine.
