Bus 197 (Schiphol to Leidseplein)

Took bus 197 into town, even though I was staying near Brouwersgracht. Got off at Museumplein, and took tram 3 up to Haarlemmerplein.

Caught the bus at Leidseplein on my way out, with my card charged €2,82 for a relaxing 30-35 minute ride to Schiphol.

I assume that may be the time line is change and hence you can find on the map but got in the time line chart. May possible that map was old and newer version does not release.That's why you find 197 on map but not on time line.

What...are you talking about? Bus 197 works...many times a day...even through any NS rail delays and other rail-related misfortune. Less expensive than the train and tram, especially with a chipkaart, and you get a glimpse of the Olympic stadium in the south, if you're paying attention. No time lines to be bothered with. Enjoy the ride and feel like a local. Doubt if any pickpockets or luggage thieves are on the bus.

Yes you can get it there and back, nice easy trip to the Marnixstraat bus station, it is 4 Euros. The reason you cannot find it on GVB site is that it is run by Connexions(sp?).

This is the reason for no times for that line on the GVB site.

And Can i buy this day card at the airport? 4days for 21 euro!

No the 197 is ran by Connexion not GVB. There is bus 69 that the card is valid on that leaves the airport. Yes you can buy it at the airport, see this link. en.gvb.nl/ovinmamsterdam/Pages/bestdeal.aspx

My anonymous GVB ov-chipkaart works great on bus 197. Even grants me a discount from the advertised single fare, about €1 less, if the regular fare is €4.

Not sure why any other GVB pass wouldn't work on bus 197.

What you have is an OV-chipkaart, not a GVB anything. The OV-chipkaart is valid on buses, trams and trains throughout the Netherlands. GVB refers to Amsterdam's own network, and Connexxion isn't part of that.

My chipkaart has blue and white GVB logos on both sides of the card. Purchased it at the GVB office by CS. Maybe it's a ~magic~ card.

Whatever transit company you buy your OV card from will have their name and logo printed on it. The multi-day GVB passes are not valid on another carrier, which I was referring to.

We arraival in Schiphol at 20.30... And hotel is near Leidsplein... Have to be there before 22... Best is to get the bus 197?
Without card.... Just pay with cash... That work right?

you can catch the bus in Schiphol around B11, there are screens there indicating the times and destination of the buses, and you can pay cash.
