It's telling that Al Jazeera is covering this event in much greater depth than the US media

Wish this much American energy was spent on legalizing pot.
Of course not gonna happen because a pot farmer would want prices to stay high.
Greedy pot farmer keeps pot illegal. But that's just one analysis as to why Calif has not legalized pot.
Here's an explanation on greed. Let me know if there's a better one.

What's it like to score weed in any of those countries?
What would be the punishment if one got caught with pot?

I wouldn't want to be caught with pot in Saudi, UAE or any middle eastern country for that matter, their laws are positively medieval. Dubai jailed a man from London because they found 4 poppy seeds on his jumper from a roll he ate at heathrow. Not to mantion the woman that was jailed for 3 weeks because of codeine based painkillers, her doctor over here had to intervene.
I think they are very severe on cannabis.

I'm afraid that is precisely what the mainstream media will do. That's how the mass media works on behalf of its controlling interests: by selectively emphasising what is considered 'newsworthy' (in accordance with their master's agenda) and ignoring the rest (all in the interests of their political and financial masters). Time passing finishes the job and, hey presto, nobody remembers what all the fuss was about. If a genuine anti-war, anti-greed, anti-capitalist movement arises and attracts a large following, agent provocateurs WILL start trouble at demonstrations in order to justify LOTS of media coverage of the TROUBLE-MAKING 'anarchists' who, for some inexplicable reason, have a gripe with 'the system'...!

Who remembers 'The World Cant Wait' movement with Cindy Sheehan?!?! Exactly.

Someone said of all this duplicity to me recently "M8, we're FUCKED!" to which I replied "I think a better way to say it is 'We are being fucked' "

Do a search for the topic on the BBC website - predictive text input doesnt even get it when you've typed it fully... There ARE some articles linked to but.... they are emphasising the voice of Iran in the matter - using the word 'Ayatollah' in the main article on the subject is a clear attempt to associate the movement with the 'nutty Iranians' - the implication being that success for the movement is 'what the Iranians want' which is not gonna endear the idea to the majority of folk who just sit on the fence waiting to be told what to think...

Blah, Russia Today is super-biased. Its reporting on the financial crisis is pretty good, but anything related to Russia or the US is completely biased, according to a Russian friend of mine. Russia does not wrong by this channel.

All news sources are biased, imho, you have to watch them all and decided for yourself.

I agree that they're all biased, which is why we always watch a mix. Iran actually has a state-tv channel in English that's both fascinating and appalling at the same time. I like Al Jazeera in English a lot. I find Russia today's reporting on events that don't relate to Russia quite good. (Livestation rocks)

ETA- I think the "Occupy" protesters in America are awesome, and on the right track. People power will be the only thing that will begin to shift the power back from the wealthy, we must make our politicians accountable to someone other than their donors, or there is no hope for our financial system.
