I am so glad to hear such patriotism from my brothers across the pond. If I can't buy American, I buy German or other EU made items. It angers me when people use the Confederate war flag from our (USA) civil war to promote racism. History books suck, nothing beats hearing generations worth of accounts of how the times really were during wars. On my train trip around Europe I visited Bayeux, France. I posted a few photos in my trip report.spidergawd wrote:There you have your answer Redeyezman, but I would add that the hour and the day (11am on the 11th day of the 11th month) has since come to encapsulate all who serve and pay the price in military service. The poppies are symbolic in that they grew in great profusion across the terrible battlefields of Flanders were on some days thousands and thousands of servicemen and civilians were killed or sent mad, or became heroes. Poppy symbols are sold every year as a way of raising funds to support servicemen and their families.
Peace
