As the thread/threat to start to discuss controversal topics has already started to get a bit heated "Boner", how about using "Bonglord's" quote from above as a way of drawing a line under the many various battles you're going to have to 'ref', ....as a final, "That's it, i've had enough. Find something new to argue about, you twats", ....sort of "Shooting Stars" type bringing it to a close.
It's a fine line between moderation and insanity...

Regarding the original thread about hash in Israel, I think hijacking a thread with an off-topic political comment is, at best, impolite. Piling in with further provocative remarks is obviously not calculated to promote harmony either and attacking another member with threats of violence is clearly a violation of the Golden Rule.

I've now tidied up that thread.

Personally I can't see why a bunch of stoners shouldn't be able to debate the Israel/Palestine issue in a civilised manner here in Off-Topic but I take Boner's point that such debates can degenerate into name-calling.

I think it's only fair that Boner should decide whether to allow such a topic as he'll finish up refereeing if it gets out of hand.

Thanks from me for the time you put into this, Boner, I'm sure everyone else appreciates it too.

I am more than happy to discuss the Israel/Palestine issue in a civilized manner.
But there is a very large gap between discussing the Israel/Palestine issue in a civilized manner, and calling Jews/Israelis Nazis.

From what i know of the conflict both the israelis and palestinians are as bad as each other

both of them have gone agaisnt the geneva convention and both commited war crimes

and lets not forget that the israelis are ocupying part of palestine illegallly again agaisnt
the terms of the geneva convention

all the discusions in the world wont change it topics like that are maybe not suitable

So far I count 5 members broadly against or disapproving of such a thread as this, 6 broadly 'in favour' and 6 as yet unclear in their approval or otherwise. Looks like a tip-top basis for a 'controversy thread' to me!

@Oldtimer - my earlier comment about me being naive in hoping for inteligent discussion was not addressed at your comment but at the previous one in which Boner said these things usually deteriorate into slanging matches.

I, too, enjoy the laid back, friendly and chilled-out atmo on this stoner forum! The stoner-ness 'unites' us through our political and religious differences and gives us common ground.

There will always (it seems) be those who have only 2 gears: chilled out and friendly OR crazed and ranting (i believe this simplistic duality has been fostered by the sophistry (fake philosophy) of 'youre either with us or with the enemy'). Discussing controversial subjects requires other speeds. If a place such as this, where the majority is able to discuss tough subjects calmly, rejects the opportunity to explore them, however, I'd call that a wasted opportunity for sharing knowledge and ideas.
