IMHO, this seems like a very broad and subjective Topic and forum users may needs some definition around what is considered Controversial by the forum Administrators.

What the hell, Yes.
If anyone needs to discuss a subject that they think may give offence, in the corner is the very place for it.
That way no new threads will be created to accommodate the subject, so no new headlines to attact attention. Those not interested in such discussions for the most part, can just ignore it.

My solution would be another sub-forum within Off Topic called Politics. The Golden Rule should still apply so personal attacks would still be unacceptable.

This is starting to get a little ridiculous.
The Off Topic folder works just fine. Create sub-folders and label them accordingly. People who want a Channels-type experience will know where to look. The rest of us will most likely avoid these types of folders. See how wonderful having choices can be? (EXTREME SARCASM)

I would suggest that before you vote, you go and have a good look at Channels.
Channels was also about coffeeshops, weed, and Amsterdam once upon a time, now it's just a place for people to show their hatred, of pretty much anything and anyone, most importantly, of each other.
If you're in favor of the same thing happening here, vote yes, I voted no.

i think its ok. makes it easy for us that don't want to be a part of the discussion to avoid the post. i just worry about any beef started in that post/forum spilling out into the other parts of this forum and creating a bunch of bs drama.

I think things are OK as they are, the threads very rarely start as controversies, it's usually somewhere along the line that someone says something that causes upset and it all kicks off. As things are, to take the latest nasty outbreak as an example and I wont add anything to that, the inflammatory and racist remarks of Adamster were, quite rightly in my opinion, challenged and that should have been enough, although only the manner and tone were challenged and it would have carried more conviction if the premise on which the remarks were based had also been addressed. There are some on here though who feel that somehow there should be sanctions and censorship.
Stop keep bringing up Channels or I might think you spend too much time over there getting your prurient kicks or something.
The ACD is an OK space and the couple of times when things have been removed, like now, then it's usually been by popular consent as derived from peoples replies and comments in the thread in question.
I vote we leave things as they are; and the occasional outbreak ? Fuck it. move on.
Mind you the great coffeeshop ripoff's gone a bit viral, but that's what you get when you use CAPITALS for a header.
