How long is the forum going to stand still and let the spam hit the fan? I do see the moral side of not interfering with Lemmings forum, but something has to be done sooner or later if our admin stays offline.

Should there be a vote/poll who does the cleaning? I propose that the cleaner would have appropriate rights to delete those spamming bots/members, no other messing around, just the bare minimum. The rights to delete posts and members would be temporary, maybe for a day or two.

I won't be running for that job, I am way too new member to all of you. The job should be for someone that has been here long enough and contributed to the forum for long time and is known to be trustworthy and tech savvy.

Not asking anyone apart from slimline to do it, just take control, delete the spammers and close registration until Lem returns.

Shame the site has been taken over by spammers.

Especially as it's CC week. Was looking forward to reading about it on here.

Now all there is to read is spam or cheese spam.

Hopefully Lemming will be along soon to sort these cunts out.

There is no way that Lemming could object to that, in fact I'm sure that he'd appreciate the fact that you care enough to do something to help while he's away.

Aside from actually getting the admin access the rest is technically pretty straightforward.

Close to new registrations: ACP => General => User registration settings => Account activation => disable
Start removing the spam: ACP => Users & Groups => Prune Users (incl. prune specified users posts)

Unless you just bulk prune every new reg in the last ~10 days and accept the collateral damage then the pruning bit might take a short while, but it wouldn't be that hard really and I'm sure we could happily produce a list of the usernames to help (no point until reg is closed though)...

Starting to get PM reports now for users receiving spam messages  I hope we can deal with this sooner rather than later.

My suggestion is the only answer, few agree but the frog is always right, its not theft if it was stolen from us.

It's now reached the tipping point, imo... It wasn't so distracting when restricted to the FAQ, Introductions and in here, but the Travelogues section is a step too far... Totally ruining the CC, as if it's not bad enough that most of us can't make it the Mokum, now we can't even read the reports...

...I'm not usually in favor of breaking the rules and regulations of a forum, especially one that i have such high regard of, but in this instance i think someone with the relevant knowledge should take the steps needed to hack the site and delete the spam/close registration... As someone said, they broke the site, it's our right to defend it as it's not going to stop any time soon.

I really hope Lemming is ok, but i don't think he's going to show up before the site is a total clusterfuck of gibberish... If a vote is required, i suggest a poll in the Coffeeshops section, and maybe a debate on the morality issue regarding hacking the site if need be.

Hope someone has the skills required... Maybe PM's would be a better way to arrange this as knowledge of who the Hacker is might be detrimental to their standing on the forum...

...If it get's that far.

Quote from another forum, maybe make some of you see the light!
ACD, aka 'The Coffeeshop Directory'

That's a shame to hear I've never posted on their forum, but have used the website many times for information. With all the changes that have happened over the years it would be a shame to lose the information from the web forever as it would've become a great historical resource
That's Historical from some one who is not a member.. full link to the post above in billys.

It seems that acd isn't the only forum that these spammers are bashing, I found by googling one of the usernames +spam and dug up this: http://www.stopforumspam.com/ipcheck/91.200.14.77

But that's just one spamming ip.. This might be worth something to look into: http://www.stopforumspam.com/downloads/

edit:
Stumbled upon this: http://www.fspamlist.com/
That thing seems to have some export option and possibility even installing a mod to the forum.. Seems like a more permanent solution than to fight the windmills with just deleting the spamming accounts.
