Ace Musicians

Post by spidergawd »

As we were discussing favourite musicians in a totally unrelated thread that got sidetracked I thought I'd start one here in the "Music" topic. Cool, or what 8). Doesn't have to be the best, numero uno, just a performance or gig that turned you on and maybe induces a bit of air guitar when you hear it.

So I'm kicking off with one of my old skool favourites, I saw this band loads of times back in the day :D, and it's
Alvin Lee with Ten years After - I'm Going Home. At Woodstock

Edit I've changed the thread title, might be better .

What a long strange trip it is.

Nice thread.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse at Richfield (Ohio) Coliseum, mid-late Eighties. Had front row seats and got looked right in the eyes by the man during Powderfinger. And I had indeed 'just turned twenty-two'. Magical.

Wow "Nimrod"!! Went to see Neil Young and Crazy Horse, probably on the same tour..... Got up early on the Saturday morning the tickets went on sale and headed up to "Wembly Arena" to grab 3 tickets, one for the brother, his girlfriend and me. Just remembering asking the girl selling the tickets to get me as close to the front as possible. I get back to the flat and the brother says, "how did you manage to get them seats!".
Night of the gig we have to be let into a special area by this huge bouncer right down the front, who says to us as he looks us up and down "Who the fuck do you know?".
Neil comes on and the place goes nuts, but after this everybody sits down!!! and every time anybody around me stands up, all these people further away from the stage keep shouting to sit down.
Song after song i'm sitting there as though i'm in church, thinking these londoners sure know how to party (Although later one guy got so excited he jumped the barrier and got on the stage!!) ...... when he hits 'that' cord and before he's got out "Look out mama, there's a white boat comin' up the river....", i'm on my feet jumping up and down like a man possessed, staring at Neil Young, who's 12 feet away, right in the eye and nearly causing the brother's girlfriend to wet herself.
All these people behind me are screaming at me to sit down!!!! So I turn around and scream back, "I've just travelled 400 miles (more like 2, as I was living up the "Harrow" road!!!!) to see this man and i'll be fucked if i'm gonna sit in here like it's a wake!! Get on your feet and dance!!" and started waving my arms in the air to get them up. I watched row upon row going all the way back stand up and never sit down again. I turned round in time to scream along with Neil "Red means run son, numbers add up to nothing"!!!!!!!! .....and I too had just turned 22!!!! "Magical". Couldn't have put it any better!!!!!
"Nimrod", you don't have the other half of this amulet i've had since birth, do you?!?!!!!!!

@artymac - Do you mean the other half of >this amulet< that I've had forever? Brothers across an ocean, lol.

Neil's 1986 tour was called 'The Third Best Garage Band in the World tour.' Was in a concert club at the time and placed a note in my ticket request about my birthday being near and asking for some prime seats. Yeah, they delivered.

I remember having a joint that I wanted to spark, but was hesitant because a bouncer was standing right next to me in the aisle. Being forthright, I just asked him - if I spark this up, are you going to take it away from me? I got to smoke my joint. Still have the square brown plastic lapel pin purchased at the show.

Excellent work "Nimrod"!!! Never got to smoke a joint at the concert though!! The brother claimed he was once in the same section sitting next to "Kiki Dee" when she pulled out a joint and sparked it up!
Try as he might, she wouldn't give him a puff! .....but he was well known to tell tall tails
