I have developed a crazy urge to be in a situation where I can legally possess and consume weed. I've been to Amsterdam a couple times, but that doesn't really count, cause weed is tolerated, not legal.
It appears that the only state in the US that does not require residency to get a MMJ permit is Oregon. They had a court case where it was determined that the state cannot legally discriminate by not giving the right to non-residents as long as they have a doctor's recommendation from an Oregon doctor.
Does anybody know how easy it is to get a doctor's recommendation in Oregon? Is it pretty much "rubber stamp" like it is in California? Are their dispensaries analogous to the California "Weed Stores"?
I will probably visit the US sometime this spring for business and it would be great to make a pit stop on my way back home for a few days to enjoy some legal MMJ. I realize that it is a bit silly to go through the trouble and expense of going through the doctor's and the state's bureaucracies in order to enjoy a few days of weed. However, that is not really the point. For me, it is kind of a philosophical endeavor.

really? i wonder how that was done. I have heard that one can get a doctor's recommendation from one of the clinics in Venice and they buy from their affiliated dispensary. However, I don't see how they could have got the California state issued card without being a resident. The law looks pretty clear on that account.

Interesting. I wonder if the situation is still the same. When I fly to the US it is always through Los Angeles. Could be convenient.

good luck. most shops dont care about the card. you need the rec and more importantly a state id. most places wont let you through the door w/o both.
educating myself and waiting for the next trip.

I'm confused... most shops don't care about the card... what card?cantona7 wrote:good luck. most shops dont care about the card. you need the rec and more importantly a state id. most places wont let you through the door w/o both.
I agree, most shops won't let you through the door w/o both ( 1. MD recommendation/rx and 2. Calif state ID or driver's license).
Trying to score w/o an ID this past summer, I swear I heard the guy say... even a Calif library card will work as long as it has your name on it.
I only have experience with two Los Angeles shops, one in Melrose and other East L.A.
Melrose seemed more competitive. Many stores in the area. East L.A. store is near Cal State Univ, seemed pricier. Only store for miles.
Oddest thing... my cell phone rang, I told the East LA person that I was going outside to answer the phone.
He told me I couldn't come back until two hours passed.
Reason he gave, they don't want people coming in and out.
Don't know what the Melrose shop would have done.
Definitely not AMS.

what i mean is here in Washington when you get set up you get an id card and a originals dr's recommendation written on tamper proof paper. the dispensaries don't give a shit about the card they only want the rec and a STATE id. to get a state id you need to prove residence. a library card may work but i doubt it. i wouldn't recommend it anyway. would be shitty to travel all that way and then not even be able to get through the door.

Washington state... I see. More sophisticated than California where one just needs the doctor's Rx & CA "state govt" issued photo I.D.
