Virginia has a good idea.
Re: Virginia has a good idea.
Thanks for the post.
If it passes muster, it won't be considered for anything until 2013. WTF?
It seems people keep reinventing the wheel. If they really wanted to make this happen, they could talk to States that have been down this road and much of the supporting data would in all likelihood still be valid. More bureaucracy, but at least their not bilking the VA taxpayer out of much, only $15,040.
It's a step, but in which direction?
Happy trails...

Will never, ever, ever happen in that state.

The southern US is the least likely place for any legalization efforts to produce any real change. Personally I think we'll see some western state like California and/or Colorado make the change to recreational sales before any other states. And when they do... I know where I'll want to live!

I wouldn't rule out one of the New England states, Massachusetts comes to mind!Dark_Wing wrote:The southern US is the least likely place for any legalization efforts to produce any real change. I don't think the conservatives in both parties would allow it. Medical is one thing, but legalization?notsofasteddie wrote:I wouldn't rule out one of the New England states, Massachusetts comes to mind!Dark_Wing wrote:The southern US is the least likely place for any legalization efforts to produce any real change. I'm originally from New Hampshire and our motto is Live Free Or Die, but we still can't seem to pass a MMJ law.
I don't think a State from New England will be the first, but the first within NE would most likely be Vermont, followed by Maine.

Thank you for the post.
Seems very much in the embryonic phase. Request for reclassification is a most sensible route.
Unwittingly one of the most powerful "laws" of the USA is the Drug classification system.
Government controls your body, tells you what you can and canNOT put in your body just by classifying a substance.
And this classification has shown its flexibility & enforceability w/ the recent recreational drugs.
One right that most Americans didn't realize they gave up a long time ago - to be in charge of your own body.
Also ironic since the VA Dept of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) also has law enforcement duties.
Almost funny if it wasn't sad.

As states try to balance budgets, any and all sources of revenue will be evaluated. Legalization will come from economic reasons, not the world "waking up to the truth". I have always said that legalization would come from a conservative looking for more tax revenue. Hope I live to see it.

But would a MJ farmer support that if it means less revenue for him as evidenced by Proposition 19 in Calif?
Would the law enforcement unions and lawyers support that if it meant less job security?
What would be the liquor industry's position to a potential competitor?

You missed a major Anti Cannabis group.
Big Pharma
The have 27 million Americans on antidepressants, cannabis would eat up a lot of the obscene profits made by them.
