I swear I saw some recommendations for french fries, but now I can not find them.
So, where are your favorite fries? What kind of sauce do you like?

Voetboogstraat, around the corner from Dampkring.

Also the stall at the Westermarkt is fabulous, and it has to be ketchup for me

Is it a free-standing stall or a storefront? I'm often over that way, so clues to help me find it when I will be very very high would be awesome.
I'm a ketchup girl too, but I'm intrigued by reports of peanut sauce...
Grumblefoot- thanks, that was one of the stands I was thinking of and struggling to locate!

The one Grumblefoot said, down near Spui, is easily the best. as for sauces - I don't like the ketchup they serve, tastes like pasta sauce to me

so mayo or plain for me

It's a free standing stall, it is between the gay and lesbian info stall and the haring stall. He is generally shut by 17:00. Sate sauce is popular but if you want to go mad go oorlog!

Thank you so much Hasj! Now I know exactly where that is. Now I just need it to be one month later.
Oorlog sauce sounds a bit gross. I have to admit that I was imagining something more like sate sauce. Mayo, peanut butter, and chopped onions do not strike me as the tastiest combo.

Don't bother with anywhere but Vleminicx down Voetboogstraat, nowhere comes close in Amsterdam.
Edit: Sauce wise, I go for the sate or the frite sauce, the latter is like a sweeter mayonaise.

It's true, Vlemincx has the best frites stand, but the frites at Cafe Loetje are pretty damn good, imo. After having those with my beef steak, my urge to visit Voetboogstraat was well curbed.
